Eager for some new Gears of War 2 media?

Developer Epic and publisher Microsoft have you covered with a number

of new screenshots from the cover-heavy sequel.

Gears of War 2 is currently scheduled for a November release this year. You can also have a look at Cliffy walking through Gears of War 2 technology and graphics at Shackvideo.

Really glad they considering host advantage and improving the net code and the invincibility frames - I'm more excited about that than any specific gameplay change really. Flame thrower is ok. I thought the original gears pretty much had the close range stuff covered TBH. Graphics still look good, but this monochromatic thing has been copied by so many games now it's getting really old.

Are these pre-rendered? Gears of war doesn't even come close to the level of visual fidelity in these shots, and as far as I can remember UE3 doesn't do AA (not that the xbox360 is powerful enough to render shots of this IQ with AA anyway...)

You know, if you make everything in the environment shades of gray or brown, and then you use the same color palate for the characters, you can't tell what the fuck you're looking at and everything blends together. See UT3. Also...I hate the overdone bloom/blur/post processing. I find that I cannot play any Unreal Engine 3 game for more than a few minutes without my eyes hurting.

the last two campaign shots remind of a few pre-release gow1 concept shots, which looked way better than the final product.

and i like the texture detail of new gridlock, but i'm not a fan of the hazy, possible depth of field effect in the distance. i'd rather be able to see clearly as far as possible in a multilayer shooter, so i'd probably prefer the original.

While the SP shots look pretty great, it's sad when plainly comparing the "old" to "new" MP screens and the main difference is everything is brown now. Thanks modern game trend. :(

Looks pretty cool. I think next gen engines over 'Depth of Field' stuff though. Makes things look really small. Maybe epic should hire a film DP for a month or so to go over filming their sequences.
