Morning Discussion
by Jeff "geedeck" Gondek, Jun 23, 2008 5:30am PDTGood morning Shackers, let's do this thing. With the weekend it means that we've had another Release List thanks to Faylor, and further installment of the Gibson-Goldstein Index. In other news, Atari is protecting itself from piracy, and by piracy we mean less than good review scores. And here's some great gaming news that really compliments Shacker tomservo's recent birthday.

98.7 complete, do you have to buy all the parcels to get 100%? I'm missing like 4 of the multi-millionaire ones.

I posted a snip of the roughest draft of a movie I've started writing last week and got some very useful feedback. I went out on the weekend and bought Syd Field's Screenplay: The Foundaions of Screenwriting book to give me background material that I don't have from otherwise immersing myself in movies for most of my life. It's nothing relevatory but it's interesting, I'm sort of just at the part where he starts to talk beyond the obvious 3 act construction stuff.
Anyway, I'm looking for anyone who's got experience reading/writing/editing screenplays who has the time and energy to actually devote to reading what I continue to write and getting back to me about it with suggestions, improvements and so on.
You'd have to deal with my periodic bouts of procrastination, but so far in a week I've managed to pump out 14 pages and am still going fairly strong.
SM me if you're keen and we can set something up.
To be clear, I'm only looking for people who actually:
a) are pretty involved in screenwriting in some capacity
b) actually give a shit about material that isn't their own
c) are willing to give feedback and possibly debate the shit out of stuff
I'm asking for a bit of commitment, but hey, that's fine - don't apply if it bothers you. :]

That's not a bad crowd! Proper revelry could result in a shackmeet of Dallas proportions!
so he came back and said the price is 800 i would be getting the entire upper floor. this definitely changes my mindset as i would really only be saving 400/month which is still good but i don't know if its worth it to me. i am pretty sure i can talk him down lower but i am not sure exactly how low i should come back with. i know his mortgage is 1200/month plus i would guess around 300/month more for electricity, water, cable/internet, etc. so 600-650/month should be reasonable right?
keep in mind he has this huge house and no one else lined up to move in with him so i would say he needs me to move in much more than i need to move in with him.

(As in, I want to see the game on my TV)
I recall seeing Gabe or Tycho from PA mention something about how nice Crisis Core looked on their TV, and I'm wondering how to make this happen.

http://www.avclub.com/content/feature/the_new_cult_canon_the_boondock
Their recent "Cult Canon" article on Boondock combined with Overnight, a documentary of the meteoric rise and fall of Boondocks creator, the colourful and ridiculously self-absorbed Troy Duffy, is filled to the brim with bile in the comment section about this movie.
About roughly 60-70% of the people posting their seem to hate the movie with a fiery passion I reserve for movies like Where's My Caddy and Meet the Spartans, and a large proportion of the haters seem to think that the movie in on palatable to gun-nut right-wingers, Irish drunkards or frat-boy fuckheads.
I don't think I belong to any of those groups, but I certainly belong to the subset of people who doesn't allow their knowledge of the film-maker to colour their enjoyment of the movie while still being an avid cinephile.
I think the reviewer hits the nail on the head, it IS like a 13-year old ADD-riddled Scorcese flick and my estimation is that's all it ever intended to be. It's tongue is firmly in cheek throughout, especially during the faux religious scenes, and is drawn like a big brash real-life comic book movie. Yes, it tries to be cool, but in a lot of cases if you're not feeling self-conscious about your film-viewing, it is kinda cool. I just don't get the hate, really.

However, I've found myself thinking of the one spot where the Mac guy is talking to the PC's support group, and the PC guys stands up and says "I'm on Vista and have been error free for a week... error free for a week... error free for a week... error free for a week."
It was a BSOD at shut down that made me think of it. After 3 weeks of no major OS crashes I'd hoped I was out of the woods and in the green fields of OS stability. I hope every BSOD sends a report to MS, so maybe Vista SP2 will be our saving grace.

What is the point of it? Every 'exclusive beta' or whatever is some noname Korean or Japanese MMO created by 3 or 4 kids.
Is there something else I am missing aside from 'faster' downloads of demos, mods and patches? Ugh...

ACCORDING TO A memo circulating a few weeks ago, it looks like Intel is taking a wise decision and avoiding the Broken OS entirely. Yes, Intel is not going to use Vista on its corporate machines... ever.
