Team Fortress 2 Pyro Update Released: Packs Achievements, New Weapons and Two New Maps
by Chris Faylor, Jun 19, 2008 2:32pm PDTAs promised, developer Valve has just released the free Pryo update for the PC version of its class-based mutiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2.
In addition to 35 new achievements and 3 unlockable weapons for the Pyro class, the update packs two new community maps--CP_Fastlane from Shacker Arttu "-sk-" Maki and CTF_Turbine from Bill Johnston--and the option for Pyros to blast out compressed air with the stock flamethrower.
Unlike the previous Medic update, which required players to get all the achievements to get all the new weapons, Pyros gain the Flare Gun after 10 achievements, unlock the Backburner at the 16 achievement mark, and earn the Axtinguisher with only 22.
Per the norm for Steam updates, the patch will be automatically downloaded once Steam is restarted. While you're waiting, why not reacquaint yourself with the Sniper?

In celebration of the long-awaited update, Valve is hosting a free Team Fortress 2 weekend Beginning tomorrow morning and running through the evening of Sunday, June 22, all registered Steam users can download and play the title for free.
Patch Notes:

- Added alt-fire compression blast to the basic flamethrower

- Hadouken taunt now kills people it hits
- Tuned the flamethrower hit detection to improve detection versus retreating opponents
- Removed Flamethrower's damage falloff (was falling off to 25% by the end)

- Added a route from the forward central foyer up to the battlements
- Redistributed health and ammunition throughout the bases
ctf_well
- Added a route from the forward central foyer up to the battlements

Other Notes
- Removed Soldier's 40% damage reduction from his own rockets. Does not affect rocket jumps
- In-game avatar images will now have a badge around them if the player is your friend
- Fixed bug that allowed players to move around in a reference pose
- Added custom death icons for unlockable weapons
- The player join team message now specifies whether the player used the auto team option
- Payload maps now support four control points per stage
- Achievement dialog will stay open when you're moving in & out of the game and the main menu
- Added full Russian localization, with both fonts & speech
- Returned the "Report a Bug" option to the main menu

Backburn: Has the same issues as backstabbing, namely its incredibly bad at registering a hit on a back. I've killed plenty of people with faceburns, and died a few times because a heavys back didnt want to register :/. Seems incredibly random when dancing with an enemy pyro.
Axestinguisher: Pretty much a one hit kill on anyone who is on fire, bar a soldier or heavy. But if they are on fire, they have taken some damage so it still has a high chance of one shotting them. I had great success simply following the swarms of pyros around and just whacking everyone I saw. 90% of them died in one blast. It wont crit any other time, though.
Fastlane: Badlands. Need to play it some more and try instant respawn too, but it seems pretty generic and will probably be bagged with the rest of the linear CP maps. wellnaryfastlands anyone?

knock-back: only good for people trying to meelee you, kind of sucks
new flamethrower: works better than expected, if there is one person with their back turned you crit everyone around them too

ive managed to get other achievements but none of those are working so im stuck at 9 dumb achievements and havent even unlocked anything.
