Daikatana Done?

Could it be true? After all these years finally baked? AVault is reporting that ION Storm's Daikatana "is finished", citing unnamed sources closed to the project. So not quite gold, but pretty close. Eidos still has to approve the latest build before going gold. Word is Romero and a particular level designer are off to Hawaii for vacation so they must be pretty confident. The official Daikatana GONE GOLD announcement should be quite interesting. :) To celebrate the occasion:

  • Well, looks like I missed a lot yesterday. Anyway, I have to say that being a software developer myself the only thing that I can feel justified in critisising at the moment is Daikatana's PR and planning. This usually isn't the fault of one person but Romero, as he's the boss, has to take the heat. Now when this game is finally released and everyone has played the demo we can all make judgement on what the game is like. It's impossible to make commments on gameplay based on screenshots and a very early demo.

I think that we're also too used to games being released in 18 months like Quake3. While that was a good game, with a very quick turnaround time, it didn't have a very involved storyline or plot (I still play it every day though - CTF rules!). These things take time to develop to ensure a smooth and polished feel to the game.

I think that Ion Storm need to get a good biz guy, and need to get some better PR. This game is really the relase that makes or breaks the company. If it flopps then they loose pretty much everything. If it sells well, then they stand a fair chance of getting things right for the next one. But this is all crystal ball stuff.

Anyway, any news on Duke Nukem 4?
