There were two dudes waiting in front of me starting at the menu board, they both looked a bit like Vito Spatafore from the Sopranos. They waved me ahead, and I figured out later they'd never actually been to a Starbucks before.
"Grande Doubleshot™ on Ice, plz" I sez. This threw the staff into the usual barista-babble as they figured out what a doubleshot on ice cost, how to enter it into the register, and how to actually make one.
The Sopranos Wide-Guys behind me guffawed and one of the them said to the other in a fruity tone, "OOOOOOOOOH, GRANDE!!!" He was actually making fun of me for using the fancy-pants word "grande" when ordering a coffee at Starbucks.

There's a few issues with it from reading the readme, but it works fine to me.. hasn't crashed yet.

I just played Metal Gear Solid 4 for 14 hours straight and finished it.
I just could not put it down. So unbelievably polished and great. Bravo Kojima.

A friend brought me his HP Tablet PC, which is running Vista.
Because of compatibility issues with a 3g modem driver, we want to put XP Pro in it (i can't find a place that sells Windows XP Tablet Edition around here).
Is XP Pro going to work well in it ?
Or do i really need XP Tablet Edition ?

Is it the most playable? No.
Is it the most fun? Probably not.
But goddamn, I have simply *never* been more impressed overall with a piece of interactive digital entertainment than I am with that game. The bar has been fucking raised, and I can already tell I'm going to have a hard time being impressed by other "cinematic" games in the future.

The day is finally approaching when we will put to rest the wife's 10+ year old TV and replace it with a brand-new HDTV. I know there have been articles written about this ( http://tv.suite101.com/article.cfm/lcd_vs_plasma_vs_dlp ), but some of the traditional pros/cons seem a bit dated.
So what's the most up-to-date advantages of DLP vs LCD? I'm looking at 40" - 56" sets... burn-in is 100% unacceptable, since I'm sometimes guilty of leaving the TV on overnight. PC input would be a plus -- is it possible to use an HDTV as a gaming monitor yet? That would be a huge plus, if so. Any other advice would be helpful...

A usually reliable source told me over the weekend that Tool will be appearing in Guitar Hero 4, with the track Schism, Vicarious and Parabola available to play. Apparently the graphics used during the songs will not be the usual seen in GH, but a conglomerate of Alex Grey artwork and the eyes from Lateralus and Aenima. More details on this as they come to hand.

Since this game seems to be generally underrated around here, I thought it could use a boost of help.
A few words:
In my opinion, QW has so much depth that it is impossible for any rookie to master it right away. To get a good idea of all of the things you can do, you need a lot of playtime.
Because I don't play it on a daily basis, it has taken me a while getting to the know the above average basics even. I am still surprised every now and then, when I hear about new tactics / things you can do.
Anyway... - a friend told me about this video tutorial series (by GreasedScotsman) - which seems to cover a lot of stuff, as well as being really well made.
So.. either you are like me (casual QW player) where you'll definitely learn something by watching it. Or... you have never tried the damn thing, and will probably want to play it after watching.
No? Hardcore player you say? Tja, then you'll probably enjoy it still :P

Reuters reporting a Japanese manufacturer's concept car that runs on NOTHING but water - gets up to 80kph - can even run on tea. Did this video already do the rounds? Surely there's some sort of major drawback that they didn't touch on? A fucking water powered car? I call lies and deception until I see independent verification from a reliable motoring individual.

Let's hypothetically say I have a torrent and it's 100mb exactly - I'm the only seed.
3 users jump on at the same time, all with 0%
Is it smart enough to send 1/3 to one, 1/3 to another and 1/3 to the final one? which therefore means, I only have to send that data out once in total bur those guys slowly build up speed as they all end up sharing with each other the different bytes?

It doesn't seem incredible - but it looks fairly solid.
The first bits of media for it made it look like it was going to be a digital abortion - but those finishing melee moves look kinda fun and chunky. With the budgets games have though - and the obvious cost of the IP - why not get Damon in for a few hours of voice acting? He is Bourne.

http://fora.tv/2006/06/26/Will_Wright_and_Brian_Eno
Great video of Will Wright and Brian Eno giving their thoughts on generative creation and emergence... the shared influence behind both Eno's music and Wright's games. There's also a nice Spore demo somewhere near the middle.
It's something I watched a while back, but with the chatter of Spore around these parts the past few days I decided to revisit it yesterday. It's a very interesting watch if you're the kinda guy/girl that would like hearing intellectuals shoot the breeze for an hour.

I don't know where else to ask this and I don't like that feeling so I'll ask it here. I am wanting to design a set of full range speakers for use in my computer room. Right now it's just a pair, so, pretty simple. I've already got tweeters, some said to be decent Morel soft dome jobs. Now I need to figure out what sort of woofer. Using the selection available from Parts Express, I'm looking at a 6" woofer from Hivi.
My biggest question right now is crossover design. I was thinking about doing a bandpass filter so the thing isn't being fed frequencies below what it can be happily tasked with. The Hivi response curve rolls off pretty hard below about 50hz, so, it seems like doing a 12db/octave bandpass filter seems smart. I'm thinking of cutting off the bottom at 55hz, so it's still giving the woofer some lower freq. stuff while rolling off. The high freq. cutoff would probably be 2khz. The Morel's I'll bring in at 2250hz, with another 12db/octave filter so they don't overlap too badly.
Anyone have thoughts here? Is there a better place to ask this sort of question? I've not done a whole lot with filter design, and some of that was active stuff with an opamp which I don't have this time around. Halp!
