The Batman fans in the audience should be pretty excited to see this footage of Nightwing, or if you want a more serious take on your nighttime adventures then there's this video of Alone in the Dark for the Wii. We could even continue on the theme this Dark Side focused Star Wars: Force Unleashed video. Then we pull a 180' and give you this Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2 video, with more color than you can shake a cat at. Not that Shacknews advocates cat shaking. Just Shacking.

I am loving this right from the dream where you get to play old MGS for a little while, to all of the flashbacks and the old music being played in the background. Kojima has made the return to Shadow Moses fucking awesome.

After having it for a few days now, I can say that it is very worth succesor to E46. It is more 'tight' and polished in every aspect compared to E46. I am very surprised by this, as I didn't think you could improve on E46 by large margine (i.e. more than just incremental).
One note, we have to break the engine in up through 1,200, so I haven't spun it up fast nor too high - so performance review will come later. Also as requested, pics will come, as the dealer will detail to showroom state and then I'll take some pics (unless you guys want them before); they're going to do it next week.
For lols, two baby seats did fit fine in the back, and because of some little extra's it is very easy to get them in (buttons to move seats up near head rest, as well as lever to fold seat). Though, this will not be a baby-hauler, it does work fine as one.
MPG is low, but that is to be expected and will likely improve as we drive it more where we are (the onboard computer shows 14.5, however most of that has been in rush hour, packed city driving). We live more out in the sticks, so it should be driven mostly in highway modes vs. city. The trend on MPG is up and so far no signs of slowing, so I expect in the 19 to 22 range once broken in.
I can't wait to eat the mountains up once the engine is broke in ... though we'll probably do the mountain drive this weekend in slow family mode.
The tone of the V8 is amazing, and I really can't wait to get it broken in so I can select out of sedate-M-mode and into performance mode.
Space wise, it is has a lot, and as you'd expect it is a drivers car. Getting used to I-Drive, but, I actually very much like it and can see once I know the in's and outs it will be a good feature. Compared to other I-Drive's I've tried, it is so far the simpilest, but that may be because it is our car now and I know it better. We shall see.
The sound system is quite good, although we haven't loaded it up with things we normally listen to.
Styling is excellent, and I can echo the reviews which say that pictures don't do justice, it is phenomenal in person.
Shift pattern and throw are perfect, short but satisfying when you shift. Downshifts are more nice than E46, but I am in the habit from some of the older cars I drove of double-clutching on downshitfs. Still a hard habit to break.
The drawbacks I would say are MPG, although it doesn't bother me knowing it is a performance car and a V8. Perhaps the clutch is a little light feeling, but as I age I am liking this, so not sure for us is a real drawback.
Road feel is great, better than E46 even in the sedate modes. It translates up the steering system well so you can still 'feel' the road very well.
That's what I can think of so far - if you guys have any specific questions let me know.
tldr; suprpasses E46 in every aspect. A great car to pass the lineage to.

When: TOMORROW June 14th 2008, 8:30am to 4pm (new players will definitely want to be there on time for orientation)
Where: American Canyon Paintball Jungle, which is in American Canyon which is near Vallejo. I plan on organizing a carpool from San Rafael, so if you're in that area you don't even have to drive! The venue is an outdoor paintball field which is huge and awesome.
What: Paintball! Paintball is super fun and if you've never been I strongly encourage you to give it a try! Paintball Jungle is very friendly to new players. They don't allow fully automatic guns and they clock all guns before each round to be sure they are firing at the speed limit.

How Much: They have packages that start at $55 for admission, mask & gun rental, 500 rounds and 2 CO2 refills. The FAQ says that most beginners shoot between 500-1000 rounds per day which requires 2 CO2 refills, so that package gives you almost everything you need. Because we'll be in a group, we will buy a large bulk of rounds to save money and it should give us all plenty to shoot.

But Doesn't It Hurt: The FAQ says at their speeds it's similar to getting flicked with a fat rubber-band, which I'd say is pretty accurate. It's possible to get a particularly painful hit every once in a while but what are you a pussy? You are? Well then wear properly baggy clothing which helps a lot and if you really need it they even rent armor at the field for girly men.

My LX300 keyboard/mouse combo that I bought in 2003~2004 was showing its age. The keyboard has lost the labels on some keys and the mouse was really problematic with the left click not registering at all. I have to hit the left button really hard and it behaves OK after that but the problem starts again later on. I called and they're sending me a new one for free because the warranty expires in 2009!. Thanks sneak for the suggestion and Hurrah for Logitech

All I ever got was MFT$ problems and delayed write fails, I couldn't copy large amounts of data without drop outs.
(multiple computers, multiple USB adapters, differing USB ports and even as short a cable length as possible)
I just got a 10$ ESATA cable from ebay and this is hammering at full speed, no drop outs, no fuss.

It's essentially a mountain bike in disguise. It's pretty light at 11.2 kgs, not as light as a road bike but a good few kilograms lighter than a mountain bike. It handles really, really well. It's very stiff and you accelerate like a rocket on it and it feels more stable the faster you go. I was going to get a racer (Speedster S30) but decided that this was more flexible and usable.
Plus it just looks motherfucking awesome :D

First five minutes of movie spoiler: I was a little concerned when the lab experiment/all the backstory was summed up in a montage during the opening credits, but it probably worked in the movie's favor since they ended up not spending half the movie on that stuff - made it a bit different at least.
Later spoilers: Their Leader origin/setup was kind of neat, and the Stark cameo at the end was solid - Avengers is gonna rule

Why did you assholes lie to me about Gears of War?
I thought it was a damned foregone conclusion that Gears was awesome!
I heard it on podcasts, I heard it on shacknews, I heard it EVERYWHERE, this game is more awesome than god of war, this game is 9/10'ths as good as GTA, this game is just fun, dumb, kickass bullshit - it's the predator of video games.
Unlike my normal skeptical self, I went with the flow "Fuck yeah gears is awesome" - I think I even posted in a few threads suggesting people check it out, since I try to stay on top of the news in the gaming scene and what's hot, despite me not seeing it myself.
Any time someone gave Gears shit, someone would respond 'you've gotta try co-op dude' nope... I did.
I actually purchased it about 5 months ago but left it on the shelf, saving it for when a friend would come over so I could play it co-op, I just let it age like a fine wine
So a pal came over and I popped in gears - we played co-op for about 90 minutes.
I was forcing myself to like it, infact I was forcing my pal to like it, he was bored shitless and I felt the same but I kept saying stuff like oh sweet and hey look out and all that shit - but in the end I could convince neither of us it was good.
So I figured my friend was busted, or maybe out mood was wrong.
I tried the same thing with another pal a week later, we played for about 60 minutes, I did the same thing, tried to like it and... no - it just didn't click, it wasn't really fun to be honest
I've since tried a 3'rd friend - again about 90 minutes and guess what - it felt boring, un-inspired and meh. :( I was crushed, I got this awesome awesome game which couldn't possibly be bad and it was well boring, like really boring - the only exciting thing was that cool camera angle / cinematic feel when running.
I have to wonder if half the hype for the game is the graphics? At the time they rocked but I missed out on them. I'd seen Crysis, GTA4, Heavenly Sword, Mass Effect, Quake 4 all before I saw gears - maybe that's why it didn't impress.
Next shackrecommendation, I'm back to taking my grains of salt with it.

I think they really do a good job on making golf a lot more interesting now. There is a lot less downtime between shots unless you are watching Tiger or Phil. I'm kinda just sitting here watching it while browing the web and really enjoying it. If you aren't doing much right now, i'd suggest checking it out for a bit. The shots these guys make over and over are really amazing.

Tonight, June the 13th, I will be hosting a Custom Game in the demo of Battlefield: Bad Company at 9pm EST. If you haven't downloaded the demo yet, it is freely available in the Xbox Live Marketplace.
In order to get invited into the game, just add my Gamertag: Xevo1979 and I will invite you in around 9pm when we're getting started. I'm hoping to run a series of matches, as a typical round of Attacking and Defending on Oasis takes about 30 minutes. When I repost this in ER tonight, I'll also make a detailed post that goes over the basic strategies in this version of Battlefield that you'll need to know to compete with those of us who have played the demo a lot already.
I really hope everyone with Xbox Live Gold memberships will make it tonight, as this is a free demo and is a ton of fun to play, even with pubbies! I'm sure this will become a staple of Shack Xbox Live play after its release in 2 weeks, and I plan on trying to run weekly ShackBattles whenever possible.
