Second Neverwinter Nights 2 Expansion Revealed

15
A new expansion for Obsidian Entertainment's Neverwinter Nights 2 (PC) entitled Storm of Zehir has emerged on Spanish NWN site Neverwinteros.

According to an IGN translation, the new expansion is aimed to bring Neverwinter Nights 2 back to the days of the classic PC RPGs Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale with full party customization, dungeon crawling, and non-linear exploration of the world.

The report estimates the campaign to clock in around 15 hours in length, adding that Storm of Zehir will offer new classes, spells, creatures, and playable races. The game also features an improved economic structure which reacts to the player's exploits, allowing them to ally with trade syndicates or pirate goods on the black market.

Obsidian has since confirmed the expansion's development, but did not specify a release date for the title. Shacknews has contacted Obsidian for more information and will update when it becomes available.

This is great news. I thought that their first expansion was abysmal. I just want some good ol' hack and slash fun with some great dialogue.

Seriously? I thought people pretty much universally loved the expansion. I certainly enjoyed what I've played of it so far.

I was about to say the same, MOTB is hailed as the one modern RPG that wasn't simplified or toned down. I can't comment, as I haven't even touched the original NWN yet...

The expansion was great, up there with Fallout and BG1/2 in terms of story and dialogue. Not quite Torment, but that's ok, nothing ever will be.

The expansion was kind of a nightmare to manage as a mage. The [plot event] occurs and then suddenly every aspect of the game becomes a logistical nightmare for you. Other than problem it was pretty decent.

I loved it and had no problems but I think I played as an eldritch knight... been so long I don't remember

What didn't you like in MotB? I thought it was great.

It's been a while since I have played it, so I can't recall everything, but one of the things I didn't like was that you had to continually absorb spirit. I never died from it or anything, but I would say it was annoying at best.

Story and dialogue was there though which I liked.

Community members figured out how to turn off the spirit eater mechanic. You should try it out.

Wasn't NwN2 & MotB supposed to be available on Steam? I've been holding off buying MotB for this reason.

The game is pretty fun even if I didn't like the expansion too much. Just take a look at the above posts. They all unanimously disagree with my feelings about the game. It seems I'm just an exception within the crowd.
