Spore System Requirements Unveiled

By Chris Faylor, Jun 10, 2008 12:16pm PDT Publisher Electronic Arts has released the minimum system requirements for EA Maxis' long-awaited galaxy-spanning evolution simulator Spore.

Spore is slated to arrive on PC and Mac September 7, with a Nintendo DS edition, titled Spore Creatures, hitting on the same day.

The game's creature creator will be available for PC and Mac on June 17, a move meant to help populate the title's vast online universe.

    FOR WINDOWS XP
    • 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
    • 512 MB RAM
    • A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
    • At least 6 GB of hard drive space

    FOR WINDOWS VISTA
    • 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
    • 768 MB RAM
    • A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
    • At least 6 GB of hard drive space

    When launching the game, some Microsoft Vista users may receive a warning about running out of address space along with a link to the Microsoft Knowledge Base. If you see this message, it is recommended that you follow the instructions and go to the website listed in the message to update your system.

    For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:

    • Intel Integrated Chipset, 945GM or above.
    • 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent.
    • 768 MB RAM

      • 9500, 9600, 9800
      • X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
      • X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
      • 2400, 2600, 2900,
      • 3650, 3850
    • NVIDIA GeForce series
      • FX 5900, FX 5950
      • 6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
      • 7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
      • 8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
    • Intel Extreme Graphics
      • GMA 950, GMA X3000, GMA X3100

    Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slowly. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly. Intel integrated chipsets featuring underclocked parts, such as the 945GU, GML, and GMS, will not perform adequately.

    Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily.

    Please note that attempting to play the game using video hardware that isn't listed above may result in reduced performance, graphical issues or cause the game to not run at all.

    The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista.

    MAC SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
    Spore requires at least the following:
    • Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher
    • Intel Core Duo Processor
    • 1024 MB RAM
    • ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100
    • At least 4.7GB of hard drive space for installation, plus additional space for creations.*

    This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems (PowerMac).

    For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:

    • Intel Integrated Chipset GMA X3100
    • Dual 2.0GHz CPUs, or 1.7GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent

    Supported Video Cards
    • ATI Radeon series
      • X1600, X1900, HD 2400, HD 2600
    • NVIDIA GeForce series
      • 7300, 7600, 8600, 8800
    • Intel Extreme Graphics

    This game will not run on the GMA 950 class of integrated video cards.

  • First, I apologize for this being off-topic...explaination is at the bottom of the post.

    2 games I want sequals to (excluding many other favorites...including a Freespace 3, and a System Shock 3 done correctly and not becoming a bioshock, dumbed down, etc. it has to give a sense of helplessness that you won't recieve any help or see any friends, etc. that was creepy, not bioshock, and I miss the multiple classes, RPGish stuff, and it being built with only the PC in mind, not getting consolized, etc., and I don't want it to get EA'd either, so they need to give up the liscense rights)...

    I'd like to see a Dungeon Keeper 3, which they should have kept making instead of cancelling, and a Populous: The Beginning 2. I loved that game to death...land deformation to your advantage, fire warriors, lightning, volcanoes, etc. and of course in multiplayer: Ragnorok...so funny.

    I wouldn't mind seeing a Heavy Gear 3, except that Activision canceled that many years ago(I played the first two to death).

    And I would like to see a Simcity 5, Railroad Tycoon 4, maybe an Industry Giant 3 or something similar...where did all of the in depth, complex business/management/tycoon games go? And I'd like to have someone travel back in time and destroy the master copy of orange julius tycoon, or whatever it was called...someone took it too far by making that. There is a reason why I avoided it...take a guess.

    I'd also like to see a sequel to Freelancer, and X3: Reunion, but with multiplayer as well.

    Sequel to Jill of the Jungle by Epic Megagames anyone? haha, takes me back when they had a badass company name.

    Sequel to Commander Keen...with current gen. graphics, and with devs that want to get it right, and a publisher that will give them free reign to their $$$ vault, as well as permission to freely manipulate space-time via atari-joystick.

    Rome: Total War 2: Better AI, and better armies that can turn more quickly, instead of taking 2 minutes for my greek hoplites to simply face the other way and slaughter the calvelry instead of being flanked...wtf, and give an option to remove the time limit for games, and make maps larger...and make the greeks better than the romans...the greeks invented the wheel, the romans stole it :)

    Savage 3: why? Because Savage:Battle for Newerth and Savage 2: A Tortured Soul are badass
    Battlezone 3: why? Because Battlezone 1 and 2 were awesome...same genre as Savage, except no RPG elements.

    Serious Sam III: if you've never played Serious Sam: First encounter or Second Encounter on hippie blood mode, you're missing out.

    Sins of a Solar Empire 2: we're getting an expansion, but I'd like to not see this series end anytime soon

    Damn I went off topic...it was originally meant to be in a thread, but nobody would have seen/read it. So...why not take up half a page.

    Any sequels you'd like to see, even if they're of damn old games you wouldn't necessarily buy, but would be nice to see that the game didn't die due to "old age" and not working on post-windows 98/ME?
