The first details on Call of Duty 5 have apparently emerged from the latest issue of UK gaming magazine GamesTM, revealing the game to be titled Call of Duty: World at War and set within the Pacific Theater of World War II.

Developed by Call of Duty 3 veterans Treyarch, the game will, as previously known, arrive on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS this fall. Publisher Activision had previously teased the title would take place in "a new military theater."

The Wii version is supposedly powered by the same engine that powered Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4 (PC, PS3, 360), will support the Wii Zapper controller shell, and is being handled by a separate team within Treyarch.

As further relayed by videogaming247, World at War will sport cooperative play--a series first--as well as include vehicles and squad-based elements in multiplayer.

The game is also said to be "gritty," with the opening scene showcasing a torture sequence in which a prisoner's eye is burned out with a cigarette before his throat is slit and "blood splatters and dribbles down the side of the tent you are being held in."

Job listings had previously indicated Treyarch might return to the franchise, with speculation that series creator and Call of Duty 4 developer Infinity Ward is already working on Call of Duty 6.
