PS3 Version of Red Alert 3 Put 'On Hold'

15
Electronic Arts today affirmed that it has ceased development on the PlayStation 3 edition of the alternate-timeline RTS Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3.

No specific reason was given for the move, though the EA stressed that the EA Los Angeles-developed title will still arrive on PC and Xbox 360 this fall.

Red Alert 3 was to be the first traditional C&C entry on PlayStation 3, with the Xbox 360 having received C&C3: Tiberium Wars last year and C&C3: Kane's Wrath due out this summer. The first-person shooter spinoff Tiberium is still slated to hit PC, PS3 and 360.

"We can confirm that the development of Red Alert 3 for PS3 has been put on hold," the company told videogaming247. "EA LA is focusing resources on development for PC and Xbox 360 which will ship simultaneously this autumn."

Word of the RA3's cancellation began circulating when a recent promotional clip only mentioned the PC and 360 versions, and gained further momentum yesterday when retailer GameStop removed the PS3 edition from its release list.

Funny how you've decided its a development issue and not a decision based on research done on the possible poor sales an RTS might generated on the PS3 due to its demographic.

Lets look at the amount of titles the Xbox 360 shares with the PC versus the PS3.

Considering the PS3 actually supports the RTS-friendly K+M combo, this seems less likely.

Well whatever reason they chose, they chose poorly. An RTS on the PS3 could be a huge system seller given the popularity of SC/WC3 globally - but only if they touted the support for kb/mouse and allow for proper matchmaking.

I honestly can't imagine an RTS ever being a system seller for a console.

Even if it was done by Blizzard?

on the PS3 more likely since kb/mouse is allowed, just depends on the dev.

I know I enjoyed red faction 2 on the PS2 with a mouse :P. (dualshock2 in my left hand for movement, almost better than keyboard)

What does Sony's hubris have to do with the difficulty of creating a game on the PS3?
