MechWarrior4 Q&A

Dont know how much into Mech games you guys are but this Q&A over at GameSpot UK with Jordan Weisman is pretty cool. Jordan talks at length about design decisions and technology. The screenshots here: [shot1] [shot2] [shot3] [shot4] [shot5] [shot6] were enough to get me interested. I dug Mech1.. 2 and 3 seemed kinda rehashed stuff but Mech4 looks like they might finally make some good changes. Check it out:

...we wanted to present a living world rather than a desolate space, so we crafted a world with 15 different unique environments, including arctic, swamp, city and forest settings. They're all living environments, so they're all reacting to what you're doing and the war going on around.

  • The original Mechwarrior is the reason I bought a soundblaster card. I had one rocking 386SX16 system back then with a whole 80 megabytes of drive space and 2 whole meg of RAM. Woo Hoo!
Mechwarrior is the only game I've ever found that I actually want to use a joy stick with. Everything else seems to work so much better with a mouse.
I'd expect Mech Warrior 4 to be nothing less than amazing when it gets released. After all that seems to be the entire reason that Microsoft bought FASA in the first place. I don't see any shadowrun computer games coming out, but I'd bet even money that Crimson Skys gets turned into a computer game if the board game sells reasonably well.
