Sony Details Virtual Parties in PS3 Home

Every time I hear something about Home... it sounds and looks pretty cool... BUT I also think it's just one of those things that sounds great on paper but will just never work well in reality. It will be fun for a week to mess around with... then people will go back to playing REAL games.

I still think... that the only way Home could have been successful would have been if Sony had the balls to wait and make the PS3... the "Sony PS Home". If you fired up your PS3 on release day and it drops you into HOME and your create your dude(et) and set up your room... wonder around and play games etc. If the whole console was designed around that environment... then that would have been a very bold move... and it maybe could have worked.

Not that I'm saying this should have happened (or that it would necessarily be a good idea)... I'm just saying it is the only way I can see Home being a big deal and making a large impact. I almost feel that they should have just waited and made home the user interface for the PS4 and done something totally different. You fire up the console and you are in Sony world... Either that... or not at all.

But this... I don't know... I don't see it going anywhere.

They really need to stop screwing around with Home. I think it has potential for interesting things like they've mentioned (Warhawk strategy before a map etc), but they are so far behind the 360 when it comes to integration. They need to develop the menu-based portion of Home NOW and let PS3 users start using it. After that they can add in all of the 3d graphical crazyness they've been working on for so long.

i'll probably buy a ps3 when this comes out, free online game where you can run around a huge world and see other people sounds awesome

all the grinding in MMORPGs for money and killing monsters is boring, people just play to show off to their buddies loot, this is the same thing except no fighting and more loving

So its The Sims for the customers who don't give a fuck! Great idea.

Now if you can steal people's trophies and grief them this would be the greatest online social game ever!

So can you virtually get too drunk, virtually barf all over the floor, and virtually pass out in the virtual chick next to you's virtual cleavage at the virtual bar? If not, there's no point.

So how do you talk to each other? You need to buy a keyboard?

It looks good, graphically, so I'll give it that. Might be fun to just run around and goof off when I'm not in the mood for serious gaming. Exclusive real-time virtual events definitely has some potential.

I can't wait to read a blog on a virtual TV screen in my virtual house with all my virtual trophies in them.

I guess it is unique to have events in game while they are occurring halfway across the world. However, I highly doubt that the media will arrive on time to justify the virtual party's existence. Keynotes, and game videos are always released at a later date than the actual day given or shown. I cannot see myself using this, although I am sure once it is released they will release the in-game XMB as well, which is what most PS3 gamers really want.

If you could shoot other people in there it might be cool but I dont get the point of walking over to a screen to watch something, rather then just downloading the video

So are they actual screen shots or the usual Sony Renders of what we want it to look like?
