New StarCraft 2 Screenshots Are Pretty

by Chris Faylor, May 27, 2008 7:22am PDT

Blizzard has released a handful of new StarCraft II screenshots, showing off all sorts of color, robots and floating alien brain things from its upcoming PC RTS sequel.

The company has yet to even hint at a release date for the anticipated title, though more information is likely to emerge from this summer's Blizzard Worldwide Invitational and Blizzcon 2008 events.

  • I bought SC on day 1 and back then was a bit underwhelmed by the graphics... They looked ok mostly but somehow there was no big wow, like in most other AAA games.

Now the graphics still feel as good and solid as back then, the "wow" factor from other games wore out like 9 1/2 years ago but most of them look like shit now.

Blizzard's art design is incredible and one of the few I'd really consider art among games (not even speaking about the gameplay), no difference with this one. Everything has a distinct look, everything feels really solid, even though this isn't even a game close to release.

I have no doubt SC2 will be the most played RTS online for years to come and a worthy successor to SC.

Maybe people are complaining about the gameplay, but that happened 10 years ago, too. There always will be those who prefer C&C, Age of Empires, etc. (Nowadays probably more like RA2, Dawn of War,...) To me SC hits exactly the sweet spot between strategy and tactics. But to claim this is just a mod or graphics update makes no sense whatsoever. Just look at the history of Blizzard RTS, the difference between WC1, 2, SC, WC3 has always been huge, between all games. This will be no different.
