Devo to Whip Up Rock Band Tracks
by Nick Breckon, May 23, 2008 12:21pm PDTNew-wave band Devo, best known for its hit 1980 track "Whip It," will soon be featured in Rock Band according to a report on G4TV.
Founder Mark Mothersbaugh told the outlet that three Devo tracks will make it onto Harmonix's rhythm platform, with "Through Being Cool!" confirmed as one.
"They wanted 'Through Being Cool' for some reason, which is kind of odd because it's all synth solos, so we re-recorded it," said Mothersbaugh.
"My brother Bob, who's our guitar player, played all my synth solos, synth leads, as guitar leads, so it would relate to the game better, and then we recorded one of those little crazy endings that they put on it."

Some Devo songs would need re-recording of the drum tracks, too, because there's so much going on (not all of it human-triggered) in the recorded versions they're probably unplayable.
Aside: Mothersbaugh is an awesome guy, way underrated as a composer (listen to the Peewee Playhouse music) and also as a media theorist. Devo was an idea before it was a project, and a video before it was a band (back before bands had videos). They originally thought they would be able to spin off live performing troupes, much as Blue Man Group has done, while they sat home and composed music and cashed checks. Way ahead of their time.
