BioShock PS3 Confirmed, Jordan Thomas Replaces Ken Levine as Creative Director

19
The long-rumored PlayStation 3 edition of 2K Boston and 2K Australia's underwater shooter BioShock (PC, 360) has been confirmed by 1UP and sister publication EGM.

The port is due out this holiday season, with some possible graphical improvements. Rumors had previously suggested a PS3 edition would arrive in September.

The site further reports that Thief: Deadly Shadows co-designer and BioShock artist Jordan Thomas has replaced creator Ken Levine as creative director of the franchise, which has a sequel in the works over at 2K Marin. Levine is said to be involved with the sequel, though his role has not been specified.

The next project for Levine and 2K Boston is not yet known, but has long been rumored to be a new X-COM title.

Chris Faylor was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.

I'd retool the game play, less shooting, more exploration; but that's me.

If they did this I might actually play farther into the second one than I did the first. The story and setting were well done but the combat was weak.

I wouldn't say it was weak, but just too repetitive. It needed more variety in terms of enemies (especially after the concept art stuff that showed tons of really disgusting/creepy looking enemies, only to have none of them show up in the game.

The game got progressively more aggravating for me after the Andrew Ryan scene; nothing more was being added to the intrigue of the story, really, and I wasn't getting any new plasmids or weapons or fighting any new enemies.

Yeah it was like the game out stayed its welcome. Still.. I like the "good" ending.

I used guns until I realised the wrench was a better solution. I'd break out the grenades and crossbow bolts for a Big Daddy but other than that, eh. Trying to aim with guns was quite annoying with my bad FPS too.

        Signed

        SO FREAKING SIGNED!

I think the biggest Bioshock's biggest turnoff for me was just the glut of samey enemies. I mean, for a city that was literally tearing itself apart, it seemed an overly large portion of the spliced populace survived. It broke much of the immersion for me, as the city didn't really feel very desolated or ruined.

The big daddies were universally awesome to fight, and I would have preferred more puzzles or downtime between fights (for exploring) than just wave after wave of mostly brain-dead splicers.

I think the length was good. It wasn't as long as Deus Ex 1, but also has less variety and locations.

I don't know about new content, but if they incorporate the changes they put into the PC patch then PS3 users will get some benefit there. I played 1 playthrough at launch and just recently finished a 2nd play.

Patch changes minimized some of the lamest features. It takes less photos research enemies. Research lets you auto-hack bots/turrets, and enemies drop Auto-Hack Tools more often it seems. On the downside, faster research makes the game even easier than it was before - and it was way too easy even on Hard before. You can turn off Vita Chambers if you want, but I would always quickload when I died before patch anyway. The added tonics and the added Sonic Boom plasmid was very "MEH."
