When you think about it, this surely is a carefully-calculated move by Sega to throw retailers a bone. We have all read the dozens of articles about how retailers are floundering, profits are down and stores are closing, in part due to so many people buying games online.

By including a live component with their video game, Sega are gently urging consumers to buy from a store, where the chimp can be cared for. Those who are unaware the game has animate features, well, when they crack that crate open and get a whiff of what a chimp smells like after several days in transit without food, water or fresh straw, they will never order anything online again.

While I think it's quite thoughtful of Sega to give retailers a helping hand, and perhaps even good for the industry in general as games stores are the public face of video gaming, I am not sure this is a move I can really support. It seems kind of abusive, dangerous and more than a little abhorrent.

I have it on good authority that you will soon be able to have monkeys delivered via Steam.
