New Prince of Persia Screenshots Emerge
by Aaron Linde, May 21, 2008 6:34pm PDTThe first screenshots of Ubisoft's recently announced reboot of its long-running series Prince of Persia (PC, PS3, 360, NDS) have surfaced on several internet message boards, giving a glimpse of the game's "illustrative" art style in action.
"The previous trilogy mixed the Arabian Nights in with historical Persia," said creative director Jean-Christophe Guyot earlier this month. "We decided we'd prefer to return to the tales of the Thousand and One Nights for something more colourful."
The new Prince of Persia franchise will arrive on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS this holiday season.

I can't wait to see what this Prince of Persia 7 will look like in the end and more so, how will the gameplay feel like.
Also more about the story would be nice to hear, but all in time, all in time.
Ubisoft is taking this franchise back on it's tracks, it seems.

However, I dunno if this specific style is good for POP. Seems very ninja/anime-like as if someone was watching too much Naruto.

Ubisoft just can't fucking win, there's always going to be some philistines who wouldn't know art if it came up and jizzed on their face, whining about how cel-shading is so played out.
If they had gone for a cartoony look people would be whining about how it looks too childish, if they had went for super realistic graphics the same people would be complaining about too much bloom or motion blur.
So basically, shut the fuck up all of you.

Mystery
Also, is this really IN GAME shots? I find it hard to believe, it's almost just too damn good.

I hope they accompany this with a unique style for how the game moves - the game should not have the fluid framerate of your normal 3d games and films, they should do something in the vein of cell animation, and make it render at 15 frames per second or something, so that the action matches the illustration.
