Mortal Kombat vs. DC's Superman Unveiled

by Chris Faylor, May 21, 2008 7:30am PDT

Ever wonder what Superman and his beloved city of Metropolis would look like within the confines of a Mortal Kombat game? Developer Midway Chicago is here to help.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall.

Only four characters--Batman, Superman, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion--have been confirmed for the magical fighter, with more to debut at E3 in July.

  • The "hey cool, fatalities" and "hey cool, hidden stuff" have lost their luster as something new and unique. The level of blood and gore in games has risen (thanks to better graphics) to much higher levels than the old MK series ever had, and hidden characters/easter eggs/achievements are par for almost all games now.

As for pitting the Man of Steel against a ninja dressed in a "Thriller"-type stealth suit, well, now you're just being silly, Midway.

I liked the first MK because I was 13 years old when it came out, and the volume was super-high on the arcade cabinet, and the fantasy of punching someone and making them fly up ten in the air in a spray of blood appealed to my adolescent mind. Now, it's just boring.
