I'm annoyed by that whole cartoony cells-with-eyes look, but I'm much more annoyed by the fact that the first presentations of the game had nothing to do with that. In particular that initial presentation at the GDC ('05? 06?) looked so much better in my opinion. It had more style all the while being a little abstract.. I really hate when that kind of things happen, a game art style doing a 180° halfway through development..
Think of it that way, last summer id introduced Rage with it cool Mad Max looking vehicles.. But what if it ends up looking like Mario Kart? =(

I had interest in this idea for a game 5 years ago and it still looks interesting, I just wish they didn't take the cartoonish/childlike approach with the graphics. If it feels like you're playing a kids game, I think that alone will turn me off.
But I guess will see come release..... 2010? 2015?

I suspect this will be the kind of game taht doesnt get huge amount of hype on the shack, but in the end a lot of us will be playing/loving it. Personally I love the look of the game and cant wait to waste hours building my creatures and then destryong the universe with their offspring.
