The only real advantage I see to LCDs are convenience...my CRT blew up and I have an LCD right now until I get my new CRT (getting a 20" Sony FD Trinitron I think)...I can understand where LCDs might be good enough for people, but it pisses me off that they're killing off a technology that is better in a number of ways (its as bad as laser mice killing off optical mice...optical mice are superior in every way (a guy on esreality did some really good emperical tests that pretty much prove this)...but lasers sound more impressive so people think they must be better...at least LCDs have the advantage of offering something (small size...and I guess sharpness...though a good CRT monitor can be very sharp and do everything else better...not to mention that some lousy LCDs actually make my eyes hurt...something that I've never had much problem with regarding CRTs (which is the opposite of many people I realize)).
I wish something would come along and get rid of the whole native resolution bullshit, offer colors at least as good as a CRT (or even better), and have all the dimensional advantages of an LCD...and ofcourse a good refresh rate/no ghosting/flickering (LCDs and CRTs are both good in that respect now (LCDs used to have a problem there), but I thought I'd throw that out there just to be sure).
