Gears of War 2 Four Player Co-op Confirmed (Updated)
by Chris Faylor, May 16, 2008 11:40am PDTUpdate: Microsoft has told IGN that Bleszinski says "co-op's drop-in, drop-out, multiple difficulty settings for co-op players" instead of "multiple difficulty settings, four co-op players."
The Shacknews staff believes that the pause between "multiple difficulty settings" and "co-op" indicates Bleszinki meant four, not for, especially given his past teases. However, the official stance from Microsoft is that four-player co-op is unconfirmed as of this time.
Original Story: Gears of War creator Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski has confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel will feature four-person cooperative play.
During a video interview with GameSpot, he revealed that the game will feature "four co-op players," which he further specified to be "drop in, drop out."
The original, which hit Xbox 360 in 2006 and PC in 2007, featured local and online two-person co-op play along with an eight-player online deathmatch
mode.
Bleszinski had teased the feature earlier in the week, but at the time declined a confirmation.
Gears of War 2 is slated to arrive on Xbox 360 this November. For more on the sequel, check out our impressions of CliffyB's presentation.

do they not want to pull a silicon knights and hype 4 player coop only to drop it down to two a few months before release?

I am certainly bias in my opinion for Gears. It struck a nerve with me, resonated greatly, and I found myself helping 4-5 friends through countless play-throughs of the SP mode (casual, hardcore, and insane alike).
This being said, I have seen tons of "I don't understand why people like this game for <insert X,Y, or Z here>". While I certainly encourage this type of negative feedback for not only Gears but games in general, at least the ones that are given in constructive manners, I wanted to try and address the majority of the questions that are constructed in this manner so that confusion is kept to a minimum.
So below I kind of constructed a simple, procedural walk through for you:
-Did you watch the movie(s) Predator/Aliens?
-No? --> Go watch. Come back when done
-Yes?
-Did you enjoy it/them?
-No? --> You're comments are justified.
-Yes?
-Did you like Gears?
-No? --> You must be confused with another game. Play again. Come back when done.
-Yes? --> Of course you did.

Still really really want them to have a survival mode or terrorist hunt style mode though, that would add a lot of replayability.
