Gears of War 2 Four Player Co-op Confirmed (Updated)

Update:

Microsoft has told IGN that Bleszinski says "co-op's drop-in, drop-out, multiple difficulty settings for co-op players" instead of "multiple difficulty settings, four co-op players."

The Shacknews staff believes that the pause between "multiple difficulty settings" and "co-op" indicates Bleszinki meant four, not for, especially given his past teases. However, the official stance from Microsoft is that four-player co-op is unconfirmed as of this time.

Original Story: Gears of War creator Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski has confirmed that the much-anticipated sequel will feature four-person cooperative play.

During a video interview with GameSpot, he revealed that the game will feature "four co-op players," which he further specified to be "drop in, drop out."

The original, which hit Xbox 360 in 2006 and PC in 2007, featured local and online two-person co-op play along with an eight-player online deathmatch mode.

Bleszinski had teased the feature earlier in the week, but at the time declined a confirmation.

Gears of War 2 is slated to arrive on Xbox 360 this November. For more on the sequel, check out our impressions of CliffyB's presentation.

"Despite rumors running rampant over the Internet that say otherwise, we've just received confirmation from a Microsoft representative that no announcement has yet been made in regard to Gears of War 2 having four-player co-op play. The rumor started because of a GameSpot.com video interview in which Cliff Bleszinski -- Creative Director at Epic Games -- stated, "Co-op's drop-in, drop-out, multiple difficulty settings for co-op players." That's where people got a bit confused. In the interview Cliffy B. puts an odd emphasis on "for co-op players" making it sound like a confirmation for "four co-op players." See the difference? One is a number, the other is not."

greyest game ever...it's like they looked at every texture in the game and said "hey this isn't grey" then desaturated it...

Oh well. I guess there is still Resistance 2 to get your co-op fix if 2 player co-op doesn't end up being enough for people.
