First Guitar Hero 4 Drum Kit Details Revealed; Compatibility with Rock Band Not Likely
by Chris Faylor, May 14, 2008 10:33am PDTWhen Neversoft's Guitar Hero IV (PS2, PS3, X360, Wii) arrives this fall, it may compete with Harmonix's Rock Band (PS2, PS3, X360, Wii) for more than just retail dominance--the battle of the bands may very well extend into your living space.
As revealed earlier this week, Neversoft's Guitar Hero IV (PS2, PS3, X360, Wii) will bring drum, vocal, and music creation support to the franchise. Now it appears GH4 may not be compatible with the Rock Band drum kits that are already in the homes of many gamers.
A picture of the wireless Guitar Hero IV drum kit, located within the pages Game Informer magazine's June issue, reveals it to have three drum pads, two cymbal pads and a foot pedal. That gives the kit a higher number of inputs and a different physical arrangement than the Rock Band drum set, which has four drum pads and a foot pedal.
Given these differences, it does not appear likely that Guitar Hero IV will be compatible with Rock Band's drum kits, especially taking the companies' past feuding into account. Shacknews has contacted both Harmonix and Neversoft owner Activision for comment.

If there was compatibility, I -might- be inclined to get GH4. But after the last GH3 incompatibility issue on the ps3, it left me with a terrible taste in my mouth.
I've invested in rockband equipment and DLC. I'm not going to 'upgrade' my fake instruments, or get a second pair for a different game.

Yeeeuuuuckkk.. Will not buy. Already have the RB setup, you should have simply made the game compatible with their accessories and been done with it. I *still* have an acidic taste in my mouth from them shutting down cross compatibility on the PS3.
Dumbest idea since GH:Aerosmith and the GH Beltbuckle game.

Rockband did get a few things right....number 1 is content.
I guess I might be the only one that prefers Guitar Hero in this joint.

Well I will personally be all over this another game like RB and more music to drum etc too is fine by me.
I agree another drum set is lame but all well what can you do.
Not sure about the kicker, I have the whole drum set duck taped to my floor and the Kicker as well, plus I have reinforced the hell of the kicker for I have all ready cracked it. We will see I guess, but those that do not have wood floors like me will have a hell of a time making it solid on the floor so it doesn't move.

That looks like a nice drum kit and all but I already own one and I really don't need another.
Plus thanks to DLC my copy of Rock Band is over 130 songs now... as long as Harmonix keeps up the stream of DLC I think I'll pass on another $150-$200 kit and 2 separate drum kits to store.
Now, if they'd make the new drums compatible with Rock Band OR better yet Rock Bands with GH4, then maybe I'd buy it.
But I've got enough peripherals (2 guitars, mic, drums) now, thanks.
