The Video Game Release List of 5/11 - 5/17
by Chris Faylor, May 10, 2008 10:37am PDTThe good news is that there are new games coming out this week on
PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS.
The bad news? Most of this week's games are just different versions of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, though the Wii and DS are getting a few other titles as well.
Barring any unforeseen delays, most North American retailers should have this week's releases by Wednesday, May 14. Except for Prince Caspian, that is. Caspian is street-dated and won't be on store shelves until Thursday, May 15.
If available, more information can be accessed by clicking on a game's box or name.

I've had the EU version for a while now. I disliked the game at first but got quite into it after a few days playing it on and off. (I had never properly played the game on the PC.) The bugs and bad porting are somewhat unforgivable, though:
- There are quite a few graphics errors where corrupt or incorrect images are overlaid on the screen.
- Some "movement" bugs where you can confuse the game's idea of where you are (though not fatally so far).
- It has completely locked-up on me several times, requiring a reboot.
- The graphics are really grainy and have not been converted for the DS very well at all.
- Some of the things you are supposed to read are very difficult to make out on the DS screen and with the grainy graphics making things worse.
- Some of the things you are expected to click on are ridiculously small and you have to keep tapping the stylus around the area until you hit the right pixel.
The back of the box claims the game was re-written for the DS but I seriously doubt it. If it was it was re-written by fucking idiots.
Still, a good game if you like that kind of puzzle thing and can forgive the old-fashioned graphics and confusing movement system. (It's never clear whether clicking somewhere will turn you 90 *or* 180 degrees, *or*, rather than rotate you on the spot, move you in a direction. Since it's inconsistent, depending on where you are, it can be disorientating when you don't know an area yet or don't realise you can get to certain places.)
The DS game has some extra stuff in it but it still has me wishing I had just got the old PC game instead.

I calculate at this rate that GTA VIII will create a magnetic pulse that will wipe out all game releases for 20 years.
