Rumor: Sony Ditching F1 License
by Chris Faylor, May 08, 2008 7:35am PDTConsole maker Sony is rumored to be abandoning the license for Formula 1-branded racing video games, with increased license costs blamed as the culprit.
Citing "industry sources," TG Daily claims that there is apparently a wide gap between what Formula 1 wants for the license and what Sony is actually willing to pay.
Sony's hold on the F1 license has long kept the sport from appearing on any non-PlayStation platforms. With Sony supposedly out of the picture, an F1 game could find its way to multiple platforms.
The report named EA, Ubisoft, and Codemasters as possible licensees, though it could go to any of the countless other publishers in the industry. EA and Codemasters are both established developers in the racing genre, while Ubisoft has yet to produce a major racing title.

Now this times might be over, but looking at the cause for the drop, seem like we wont see any official F1 games anytime soon which is quite dumb. FIA was always way to greedy, especially around the F1 brand, just one look at the official F1 store at formula1.com reveals that they are idiots with the prices they demand for gimick products.
Well one can always hope that the PC will get a decen't official F1 game someday in the future, maybe made by SimBin, that would be nice.
It's really not that great, the shadows and f'n lense flares are irritating as hell. High-speed physics seem to be lacking with the sim level high.
I hope a good studio gets to do the next one.
