Ubisoft Montreal's Assassin's Creed (PC, PS3, X360) spearheaded a 36% boost in 2008 sales over last year, the company announced today.

Ubisoft's full-year sales for its 2007-2008 fiscal year totaled EUR 928M, or roughly $1.45B at current exchange rates, a 36.4% increase over last year's figure of EUR 680M / $1.02B. Fourth quarter sales were up 10%, clocking in at EUR 217M / $340.5M.

The company cited the performance of Ubisoft Montreal's Assassin's Creed for the boost in numbers, which it said sold over six million copies since launch. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PC, PS3, X360) also added to Ubisoft's burgeoning moneypile, recording nearly two million units sold since it hit shelves in March.

Not bad going for a highly repetitive game.

You forgot "kick-ass swordplay simulator". That game has some amazing combat. I'm not sure how the controls are with the consoles, but the mouse+keyboard is a win.

They always get a shitload of returns. I was there last week and they had tons of Halo 3. What does that mean about that game?

no way, they needed a vehicle level!

Though I guess the kingdom kinda counted as that...?

LOL I am so glad I checked reviews before buying this. Apparently these days assassins only use knifes, who would have thunk it? I was under the impression that guns were much more effective! Even though there are alot of great reviews that make the game look great (particularly this one: http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/22/193/Assassin27sCreed/250389 which even says it's essentially Splinter Cell) I still don't understand how they only implemented knifes and not guns...kind of stupid if you ask me

This game gets totally shit on... but I really really enjoyed it. I agree it gets repetitive after a while, but the mechanics were good enough to keep me playing all the way through. I'm still impressed with the scale and look of the cities and how well the engine handles everything going on.

I guess it also helps that I played the game over the course of about two months. I guess if you tend to play through games in a night or even a week... this game would be tedious. "Luckily" I don't have the time to do that... so I guess I tend to enjoy my games more.

Even if I DID have the time though... it never seemed right for me to wait 6 months for a game I want to play... then burn through it in a weekend.
