Call of Duty 4 Map Pack Sells 1M in Nine Days

Publisher Activision announced today that the Variety Map Pack for Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare exceeded one million downloads in the first nine days of its release, setting a new record for paid downloads on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

The content was released on Xbox Live on April 10, priced at 800 Microsoft Points ($10). The map pack is scheduled to drop on PS3s via the PlayStation Store on April 24.

Composed of four maps, the Variety Map Pack includes Creek, Broadcast, Killhouse, and Chinatown (a remake of the classic CoD map Carentan).

Although charging for maps isn't the done thing for PC gaming (yet), what you need to factor in is that by making money from extra content, developers are given a massive incentive to keep supporting their games long after launch. I'd rather pay $10 for 3-4 new maps every few months than get none at all and whilst eventually most FPS get a decent amount of third party maps, there's often the problem of getting them integrated in to the server map cycle.

3rd party maps >>dev made maps. If they bother to sell maps on the pc, they'd better have more creativity and originality, and be a 300+ map pack,all unique, as anything less would simply be equivalent to putting together a really large 3rd party map pack by taking maps from different authors and putting it into a zip file.

nickle and diming...only works on consolers(or the not so intelligent pc gamer that doesn't know what a mod, or 3rd party map is)

If these maps ever make it to PC, I would like to see the record breaking sale stats then just cause I want to know how many retards actually bought freakin.. maps (what kind of an idiot actually pays for few maps?).

They will probably try to ship these to PC in some 'gold edition' or something similar.
