That's so hilarious - they didn't even bother to come up with a real name for it (though, on closer inspection, it looks like this is just the seventh and latest in a line of "stuff").
It's fascinating, they seem to have found this bizarre market where the target audience is perfectly willing and able to buy anything and everything they throw at them, but apparently doesn't want to buy stuff ala carte over the Internet (maybe they offer this stuff that way as well but seven retail releases seems to indicate that there's enough retail interest to merit the hassle).
It really is the Barbie of the gaming world where you go to the store because there's a new tiny chair for sale this week. Not that there's anything wrong with this, I'm not one of those people who are offended that this sort of thing exists, but it's just fascinating to me that EA has found this niche and is milking it for all its (willingly) worth. And this, combined with the recent decisions to take the microtransactions out of BF:BC seems to indicate that EA would like to do this sort of thing to all their customers and franchises, but is at least smart enough these days to react and respond appropriately when it becomes obvious that in other niches this sort of thing will just not work.
