Dawn of War 2 Announced, Eventual Beta Access for Soulstorm Buyers

Confirming earlier reports, publisher THQ today announced the sci-fi RTS sequel Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II for PC.

Developed by Dawn of War and Company of Heroes veteran Relic Entertainment, Dawn of War II will feature a non-linear single-player game, a co-op multiplayer campaign, and destructible environments.

"We started with everything fans loved about the original Dawn of War and then added more than they ever could have hoped for," said Relic general manager Tarrnie Williams.

While no release date was provided, THQ did note that those who purchase the recently-released stand-alone DoW expansion pack Soulstorm will be able to participate in an eventual invite-only multiplayer beta for the sequel.

What is so bad about SoulStorm? I keep hearing people refer to it as "ShitStorm." Were the Sisters of Battle not skanky enough?

It had a few bugs that affected some games - probably due to the early shipping and closing of Iron Lore - but in typical internet retardism people declare SHITDOOM! rather than chill and wait for the patch from Relic.

Only bug I noticed was that the pathfinding was kinda wonky. Have they fixed that in a patch yet?

          They are PLENTY skanky.

I haven't heard any complaints, but I don't listen to complainers much.

If you asked me, Dark Crusade is MUCH better than SoulStorm though. Tau and Necron are much cooler races than Dark Eldar and Sisters...jsut the way they play and the way they look etc.

The campaign in Dark Crusade was 100% revolutionary. The one in Soulstorm is exactly the same, and you already know the problems with it. (Although they fixed some of it.) (Also, the Race Homebases were much harder and more interesting in Dark Crusade)

So, overall it was just less impressive than Dark Crusade....but that was a hard act to follow. (Except that all the coolness of Dark Crusade (cept the campaign) is 'INCLUDED' so it's good enough. ;)

I really like the Sisters of Battle, actually. They're now my second-favourite faction next to the Necrons.

The Saint? What is gay about the Saint? She is the person they based their convent upon. (Aside from the Emperor, of course)

Come on, it's so very fire-and-brimstone to have a sword-wielding saint swoop down and annihilate your enemies.

the Tau are incredibly boring. The Necrons are good, though, so I'll give Dark Crusade the slight edge.

eh, to me it's just one expansion too many. I played a lot of Dark Crusade and that's as much as I'll play a skirmish expansion.
