Morning Discussion

So I guess sometimes we're too awesome? Check out the Fallen Empire contest, we've extended this, clarified that and expanded the winners category in a neat way. It should be lots of good fun. And in the aftermath of April Fool's Day, we see offerings from Blizzard,

href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52018">3DRealms,

href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52019">Guild Wars,

href="http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/52011">Konami/UbiSoft and Capcom. Oh the shenanigans. Also, while it is in no way official, here's the Shack soundtrack, as collated by jasonepowell.

    repost:

    So I saw a cat outside my window last night(around 1 AM), and being bored and not tired, decided to try to follow it. It's been raining all day, so everythings wet, and the trees are still dripping. In the almost pitch darkness, I see it in the starlight go out into the barn thats behind my house. Armed with my trusty flashlight and my Canon camera, I embark upon this great crusade of following a cat. He leads me into the back of the barn where I simply assumed he was sheltering from the rain. He jumps up on an old cabinet and when my flashlight finds him, his eyes are staring at me, reflecting like the rear of a bicycle caught in headlights. He looks at me a moment before jumping in the slightly open cabinet doors. I, being a dumb human, attempt to make a cat "meow" sound, and as soon as my horrible imitation is let loose, the cat yelps and bolts out, scrambling to the floor, and runs full speed out the open back of the barn. I figured that was that and my adventure was over until two more bicycle reflector eyes caught my flashlight beam. Another cat! I ready my camera, hoping to get a rare glimpse of the wild stray-itis cat-icus and maybe grab a blurry photo or two.

    This time, the cat starts the first meow, and with the sound fresh on my mind, I attempt another "meow," this time sounding much better (at least to me). The cat meows back, and I attempt a conversation in meowing back and forth for a few moments before this cat, too, jumps and bolts for the door. Stupid cat, I know that I sounded better than before. Anyway, I go and investigate further and find 5 kittens in the cabinet! Photo-op goldmine! Heres the pics, I think there were 5 cats in there. I used my fastest lense since it was dark and the flashlight helped.

    What should I do? Leave them out there? Will the parent cats come back and take care of them? Or have I scared them off permanently? they're so cuuuuute

      parent cats scare easily. They'll be back though, and in greater numbers.

      Besides, those kittens are old enough they are likely eating on their own, IE not milk.

      Awesome pics, so cute.

      They almost look old enough to eat on their own. :P I would hang around a bit and try to make friends with the parents, then maybe leave out some milk or kitten chow from time to time.

      I don't know what's creepier, you following cats around at night with a camera and a flashlight or these googly eyes! http://shackpics.com/files/IMG_1848CustomJPG_1xqmtoo2j7s8grukxhya.jpg

      It's strange the kittens allowed you to get so close. My experience with feral kittens is that they tend to be really skiddish.

        The kittens acted perfectly domesticated. The older cats were the ones that wouldn't let me get close.

          That makes sense given what I know. The kittens will get scared of people as they get older if they aren't gotten used to people, but they should be fine if they have the exposure.

            Yeah, though the adult cats took them out of the barn. I can't find 'em anywhere now.

        feral cats/kittens will wander around during the day, though probably not far depending on the age of the kittens

        there's something adorable about feral kittens, even more so than regular ones

      The adult cats will come back and probably move their young if they don't think they are safe. Cats have a habbit of doing this.
