Sims 3 Media Shows Man Hating, Pretty Faces

Developed by EA Redwood Shores and featuring a seamless open neighborhood, The Sims 3 is slated for a worldwide PC release at some point in 2009.

I wonder if, given the demographic (read: everyone) of the game, if they're purposely doing this to keep the system requirements modest for maximum exposure.
Though, unless the core game really adds features (and it couldn't add TOO many, lest it eat into future expansions) I wonder what it'll offer to compete with Sims 2 + all those expansions people already own.
