Abstract de Blob Gameplay Footage Released

Publisher THQ today released new gameplay footage of Blue Tongue Entertainment's upcoming Wii title de Blob.

Katamari Damacy meets Jet Set Radio, de Blob tasks players with bouncing from level to level in an otherwise-open world, staining skyscrapers with appropriately bright shades of color in order to defeat the evil policemen. It's a little hard to explain here, so just check out the trailer below.

Using the same assets as the Wii title, THQ developer Helixe will be bringing de Blob to the DS. Both games are set to release this June.

This looks like a game my mom might really love (she loves Katamari and Elebits and anything pinball related and stuff). Hell it looks like I'd enjoy it maybe...but I think it'd be a sure bet for her.

Oh, I love the graffiti edge they've given the original game. Looks a lot snappier and more fun to play.

I got a chance to play their demo of this at PAX. It's kind of interesting, but the Wii controls were difficult to manage and I was bored after about a minute. It looks like they've added more style to the painted buildings (pretty sure it was just solid blocks of color when I played it) and the wall grab/pinball thing is new too.

Geez ... this seems to have been designed for boomers ... like ME!!! It's a graphically enhanced pinball machine game. Interesting. I'm surprised and think it would be kind of nostalgically fun to play. I could become an abstract de blob wizard. Doesn't sound as cool as pinball wizard though. Need to work on a catchy marketing title for excellent blob players. Hmmm. de blob blaster? No. Got me there. Maybe I'd best learn to play first and then figure out the appropriate superlatives. :)

This could be fun if they have good level design. In Crackdown it was fun to just work out how to scale the buildings and climb to the top of stuff.

Difficult to say from this video alone but the game has moved slightly from my "WTF" category to "curious." Throw in a rocket launcher and I might be sold!
