Project Origin Trailer Is Spooky, Bloody

A trailer for Project Origin (PC, PS3, X360) has been released, showing the first glimpse of Monolith Productions' upcoming horror shooter

The game is a direct sequel to F.E.A.R (PC, PS3, X360), but was retitled in the wake of Monolith's departure from publisher Vivendi. In the aftermath of the dispute, Monolith retained rights to the characters, setting and story, while Vivendi obtained the rights to the F.E.A.R. name.

Project Origin is tentatively scheduled for release in the fall of this year.

I'm not sure why but I just can't handle scary games. Movies are one thing, but games freak the shit out of me so much that I just want to run away and cry. Doom3 was pretty much my limit. I beat it, but there were moments I didn't enjoy at all because I just wanted to cry.

Eh, this looks to be more of exactly the same thing.
And as shallow as it is to point out, it looks like they've hardly updated the graphics engine or assets at all - especially notable in the scene that shows the player's legs, which look like 10 sided cylinders with low res bump map and slightly higher res diffuse textures slapped on.

ok, I have to admit, I loved Condemned but I wasn't a huge fan of FEAR. I thought the guns felt weak, gameplay felt flimsy, and the scares just didn't do it for me.

This trailer is awesome. Well done Monolith.

so i got a good laugh out of the fact that right near the end they were able to get the word "fear" up there looking just like it did with the first game for half a second by itself, kind of to say, "yes this is fear" . anyone else find this humorous at all?

Trailer is cool but Fear was kind of a waste of my money. Got really, really bored of it. Last thing I remember is traveling through a very long parking garage level, getting to the end, and then having to turn back around and go back up to the roof. Ef that. Quit. Uninstall.
I loved most of the NOLF games though, still have hope, but I'll wait for the reviews on this one.

I loved FEAR. One of the few games that I finished in the last couple of years. If they mix up the environments (that's my only real complaint with the original...hey look, another office hallway) and just give me more story then I'll be happy. I loved the gameplay, the guns did NOT feel weak, and I'm always a sucker for the bullet-time stuff.

i don't know, maybe its my special breakfast cereal mix of 3 cereals and 3 chopped fruits, but all that the video got out of me was a fart. i think they should've borrowed the girl from that japanese horror movie, the one that has that growing black hair and always makes that croaking like sound, now that thing scares me.

If they've notched up the AI a bit and offer a wide variety of environments, I'm sure this can be a fun game.

I'm completely uninterested in the little girl ghost stuff though. I think a couple of years ago, when I saw the Grudge trailer, I was pretty much over the meme.

Very slick, but a lot of well-trod ground here. Creepy little girls, T2-esque post-apocalyptic playground, Doom 3 bloodied lab stylin's...

I'm sure it will be a fine game, but sometimes I wish some fresher settings and themes would permeate these things.

The first expansion wasn't to bad. The first expansion actually looks a bit like this true sequel to be honest. Both seem to take place after the events of the original game when Alma escapes the facility. Basically your playing after the huge explosion which takes place at the end of the first one.

It is a shame to see though that this game looks just like another FEAR. It was speculated this game would have the player running through the blown up city, but all the in-game video thus far is more indoor combat. Which aint bad - But i've allready played three FEAR games that have the same combat and scares. This game doesn't look any different. I'm sorry, but it really doesnt.
