Valve to Split The Orange Box on April 9

The Orange Box--Valve's acclaimed compilation containing Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life 2: Episode 2--will be split into separate PC titles on April 9, according to Joystiq.

The move is not one of desperation. While The Orange Box has done well on consoles, with well over a million copies sold between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, Valve's Doug Lombardi characterized the PC release as "significantly stronger," citing a two-digit percentage increase over the console editions.

No official prices have been announced for the individual packages.

Good example of how making games harder to pirate equals a closer gap between console and PC game sales. Since one needs steam to play the games, it makes it harder for people to pirate them. Not saying 'can't' pirate, but more of a pain in the ass than non steam games.

Even a two digit increase over a million+ isn't as high as I expected. I was hoping it was more inline with Bioshock and CoD4, since it was as good.

I blame the terrible box art fucking up the Wal-Mart & Best Buy shelf sales

they have to get TV advertising in to get to the console gamers. look at games like mass effect and halo and both had pretty good tv marketing campaigns. especially mass effect since it did pretty well and was a new IP. all they would have had to do was repeat some commercials where you get 5 games in one and some clips of tf2, portal and hl2. i'm up in canada and didnt see any orange box commercials. tonnes of halo, mass effect and that ps3 game with that red head fighting a million dudes at once

I saw those listed on "EBGames 'upcoming' list." I wonder if the Orange Box will stay on the shelf next to them, or if that options will go away at retail once the other's show up.
