Possible Call of Duty MMO in Activision's Future
by Chris Faylor, Mar 05, 2008 8:49am PSTSpeaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick revealed the possibility of an eventual massively multiplayer game based on Infinity Ward's popular shooter series Call of Duty.
"When you think about other properties that we own and control like Call of Duty, and what would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively multiplayer environment...how do you monetize that," Kotick pondered, reports GameSpot.
In a conference call last year, Kotick made similar comments regarding a possible Guitar Hero MMO. "When we look at all the prioritization of opportunity we need to do, clearly, those are things that fall into the realm of opportunity for us for the future," he said.

The problem I have with allot of the FPS games now is that there is no goal. Sure you win the match, if I win 10,20 50 matches in the row, then the 50th win is the same as the first.. There is no real outcome...I would love to say I had a huge part in winning over a certain territory to help my faction take the lead in the war.
This is they "type" of concept I would like to see for a COD/MMO or Battlefield 3 or any of them.. I want a purpose to my playing.. Thats why I am interested in seeing how Battlefield Heroes turns out.. It may have been simplified, but there seems to be more gameplay and more reasons to play.

I guess if they made it a lobby and instanced missions, where each mission was on rails, then perhaps they could do it....but that's more of an interactive 'player matching' service than an MMO.
(Interactive player matching services are not all bad though.)

Glad they are thinking about what's important in an MMO, not gameplay or community, but money.

I just want another awesome single player game and a pretty good multiplayer component.
Yah the guitar hero MMO would be silly. How would that even work!?

What on earth does that mean? Is Blizzard acting as some kind of Asian-Market consultant for Activision, or are they providing actual marketing/connections manpower?
