New American McGee's Grimm Media Surfaces
by Aaron Linde, Feb 19, 2008 3:40pm PSTGameTap has released several new screens and a brand new trailer for American McGee's forthcoming twisted fairy tale romp American McGee's Grimm.
Developed by American McGee-founded studio Spicy Horse, American McGee's Grimm showcases American McGee's startling ability to twist even the most candy-coated environs into a decidedly American McGee-esque wasteland of horror, as evidenced in this latest set of screenshots.
American McGee's Grimm will be released in 24 episodic installments over the subscription-based GameTap online gaming service, the first of which is slated to appear in July, 2008. American McGee.

I just want to get a katamari in there and roll it all up!

Is it really a startling ability to make other fairy tales look like Lewis Carroll wrote them?
I don't mean to hate on Gametap, it's just not for me :(

It's obvious they were trying to aim for 'style' there somewhere... but a good style means not having to make everything look like shit.
There's absolutely no theme to the color. As far as I can tell NOTHING actually has any lighting other than straight faceted vertex colors. The textures have incredibly obvious repeating patterns and random colors splattered everywhere, making me think they were done with a phone-camera and a quick photoshop tweak to get rid of the seams. Low-poly stuff everywhere.
This might have made it in 1999, but now it just looks lazy, unprofessional and amateurish.
Is Mr McGee still touting how awesome outsourcing shit to the lowest bidder is? Because if so I want to know what pack of primary school students are doing this so I can avoid them at all costs.
And possibly egg them.

I don't know if anyone here has seen it but the art style reminds me of the Lucasfilm animated movie, Twice Upon a time.

1. There were 5-6 episodes, not 24. I'm scared of commitment that way.
2. This wasn't on gametap.
I'm still interested in knowing more at this point, but very wary.

And what's with the 24 weekly episodes? Splitting the game up *that* has got to be a killer for the production team, not to mention the fact that each episode is going to end up being 2 minutes long.
