Morning Discussion

Start of a new week, start of a new chatty. Hope your weekend left you invigorated, or at the very least, uninjured. We had a little bit of contest past couple days in the comments, to show some of the best Shackers... well, being Shackers. We left it up to you guys to pick a fan favorite, and this video ShackerCast by Socksta and Fleabug won the vote, and winning a copy of Devil May Cry 4 (and art book) should compliment their... review of it well.

Audiosurf came out this weekend, giving people the ability to turn their music collection into an interactive game, so how about people who have spent some time with it chime in and give their song recommendations as what to play? I know this will break your heart but Paul McCartney - Nod Your Head was a pretty epic fail. :(

In this thread, we suggest the best (or otherwise notable) songs that you've played in Audiosurf.

I think some songs depend on witch vehicle you chose. For faster stuff I think Mono works the best. I have a blast with Dragonforce and Mono Pro.

For the slower stuff I find myself leaning toward Pointer or Vegas.

      Songs I had fun with:

They Might Be Giants - Man, It's so Loud in Here
Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames
This Will Destroy You - Threads

The first song in Daft Punk's Alive album is amazingly good. The track alternates between going fast and slow between the words Human and Robot. It's astounding.

I'll just link some videos so you can see for yourselves.

Classical music and orchestral stuff in general works really well:

I really liked the last minute of this one:

Holy shit, even Mastodon is easier than this (I dare someone to attempt a stealth run):

I just run at Premium detail, 1600x1200 (I have Fraps records at half-size, 800x600). No AA for videos, but I usually roll 4xAA while playing normally. Nothing special, really.

I run the videos through VirtualDub using DivX at a nice high bitrate (resizing down to 640x480 in the process). Took a little tweaking to find the right settings to keep things looking sharp.

Oh shit! I've never played this since my PC bugs out on the demo, but I have a FUCKING RAD dream where there was like a multitouch version of this. So you had to avoid one type of block and touch another, and sometimes there were lots, and right at the end there was this insane riff where you had to hit four rows in a line together for maximum ownage.

      Fuck, someone make this game.

first, i think the game should let last.fm scrobble the songs.

I really liked navigating Beethoven's third symphony, its awesome how the game makes you fell IN the music, especially with such a carefully balanced music between fast and slow, and epic and brooding. when the tension mounts up and unleashes, you just feel so awesome and it starts falling down really fast.... loved it !

Propellerheads' On Her Majesty's Secret Service was a lot of fun, though it starts off a bit herky-jerky... The mellow part in the middle works great as a little build-up since the last 2 minutes or so are completely ridiculous.
