Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 Revealed
by Chris Faylor, Feb 12, 2008 4:32pm PSTPublisher Electronic Arts and magazine PC Gamer have pulled back the iron curtain, revealing the existence of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. The game marks the first entry in the spin-off RTS series since the Yuri's Revenge Red Alert 2 expansion pack in 2001.
With the title featured in PC Gamer, a PC version is a given, though it is not yet known if it will arrive on a console or consoles a la EA Los Angeles' Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium War (PC, X360).
More details on Red Alert 3 are expected when the issue hits stores March 4. The game signifies EA's growing interest in the Command & Conquer brand, with two other C&C efforts--the C&C3 expansion pack Kane's Wrath (PC, X360) and the squad-based shooter Tiberium (PC, PS3, X360)--currently under development.

I reckon RA2 and Tiberian Sun were huge let downs though, especially RA2. That game got completely out of hand with the high-speed combat and pointlessly overpowered superweapons. I preferred C+C when it was based in a world that was recognisable as real (or in the case of RA, plausible) but with some impressive sci-fi-esque weaponry like the Ion Cannon and Chronossphere.
From C+C2 and RA2 things became far too futuristic and unbelievable. I mean, mind control devices? lol what? Weather control? Lame. I'd love it if this game rocked, but judging fromt the past few based in classical C+C universes, it really wont.

Red Alert 1: Allied won
Red alert 2: Allied won
Red Alert 2, Yuris revenge: Soviets won
At least the cover indicates that.

That being said.. they could restore a little bit of aforementioned faith by incorporating supcom style viewing to red alert 2 and then just compiling that and giving me the binaries. EA can then close it's doors and I might give a select few of you a viewing of the game.
even though they totally bastardized the classic c&c interface for that game, generals was an absolute blast to play, and for once an RTS expansion pack that didnt totally suck balls and actually brought a lot of extra depth to the game w/ the general's for each faction.
as for red alert... honestly, never really liked it.
