Doing good today? Excellent. Let's get a discussion thread started for the day, shall we? I think it was nifty to see Apple file the gaming device trademark, though I just think they're getting ready for the iPhone SDK and the myriad of software that will bring. Let's hold hands together and just maybe hope, that Peggle is coming.

Today's the last day for the current "Show Your Inner Savage" contest, if you've got some free time then surely you wouldn't mind a copy of Savage 2? I did leave the contest a bit open ended, but if some photoshop is what you want, or just a really great screenshot, they're all valid. Then again, if you guys don't feel that you're up to competing with Helvetica, I understand and don't mind her winning again.

Here, we learn that blogs can be a little uplifting:

  • Dilemma!

I was planning on entering into this International Volunteer program that would place me in the Dominican Republic for a month of the summer, doing community service and seeing some of the sights of the country. However, the program costs almost four thousand dollars. My dad was going to pay for something like a thousand or fifteen hundred if I decided to go, which means I'd have to take out loans for the rest (it counts as an activity for my student loans because I'm an Anthropology major).

But I'm already at something like 30K with another 15K of debt that I'll probably incur as I finish college, not to mention the costs of graduate school on top of that. And then the fees of the study abroad program I'll be pursuing next year will likely add another several thousand. On the one hand, I want to minimize my debt as much as possible. On the other hand, I think it would be a hell of an experience and what's another three thousand compared to how much I'll end up with at the end of my education. What do you think, Shack? Go for it and grab the money, or save it and keep my debt as low as possible?

I'm not going to be making the fatbucks outta college. Not an engineer, not a doctor. So money's kind of an issue for me.

  • My DSL has been really slow for the last 2 days. I decided to look at my security logs and I saw that I am getting scanned by people. Here is one of the logs

Well I decided to change my settings to one of the below. I thought of going with "silentrunning" but did not know if that would interfere with any thing that I am doing such as playing WoW or using my Cisco VPN to remote into work. Please advise. I posted below what the Netopia router posts about them both. But I am sure if you are smart enough to tell me what to do then you already know what I posted below..lol

ClearSailing Removes the traffic restrictions imposed by SilentRunning and LANdlocked. Protection against unwanted inbound traffic is controlled by NAT settings.
Note: The ClearSailing firewall setting is necessary to enable pinholes, IPMaps and a NAT default server.
SilentRunning Using this level of firewall protection allows secure transmission of outbound traffic, but disables any attempt for inbound traffic to identify the Gateway. This is the Internet equivalent of having an unlisted number.
Note: The SilentRunning firewall setting disables pinholes, IPMaps and a NAT default server.
