If I didn't know what Condemned was I would have mistaken this for a bum fighting sim.

Who exactly is the enemy in this game? If it's a random bum killing game then wtf.

They're supposedly violent, crazy, drug-addicted scum.

Supposedly there is some sort of undefined black magic presense driving people in certain areas insane. Birds die from cereberal hemorageing as well. Humans just degenerate into monsters.

So they're more like zombies then?

Kind of. I think they were junkies who were infected. Birds tended to drop dead all over whenever the magic virus was around.

Not really no, they're still alive. The magic affect the character you play in the game as well, he sees things, weird things. And he's only in the area for a few days at most. Anyone actually living there would probably be driven into a muderous frenzy in a matter of weeks.

It's also said on one of the loading screens, that cops regularily visiting the area are also feeling the effects, being increasingly violent, beating their wives and such. And they only pop in every other day.

Well I've read that teens in the US like to beat up and kill homeless people, so this should go over well. They have an awesome market research dept.

Someone at Monolith was asked one too many times if he could spare any change.

It's still a mystery why Ubisoft hate Mexicans so much.

        Bum: Spare change mister?
Monolith guy: No stop asking you scum!
Bum: Common man i don't have anything.
Monolith guy: Wtf get off me *beats the bum with a TV that was conveniently close by.*
        Bum: ARRRRRRG!
Monolith guy: Wait... this would make a great video game!

Ubisoft Montreal must also have a big grudge against bums...the stupefyingly annoying beggars in Assassin's Creed...

Some of them look like drug-addled body builders, too. Those crazy SOBs.

It's not so much a virus from what I understand, but apparently it's related to sound frequencies...

Possible spoiler alert, if I'm right that is, so also possible crap talk alert if I'm not.

From what I understood(Which wasn't much) The evil presense that drives the people nuts, seem to be caused by people or things either sensitive to it, or just downright psychic bastards. The main character seems to "have it in him" to become one of these, and he constantly has to fight with this side of himself. To say if the dark presense has spawned these beings or if the presense came with them is impossible to say. It's all very obscure and I haven't done the 100% completion so I didn't get all the police files. From what I've been able to tell, people react in one of two ways to the presense. The ones who are more sensitive to it than normal people, like the main character either becomes one of the evil beings, or tries to fight it off. The less sensitive just become crazed bums.
You can tell the sensitive ones appart from the regular screwed up bums as the sensitive one's bodies usually look healther(Relativly) They don't look starved, but rather strong. And there is of course all the metal they tend to stick in themselves.

It's also worth noting that the ones that seem farther along in the process are usually the skinnier ones. The enemies in the game that is.
