3D Realms Disputes 'Confirmed' Reports of Duke Nukem Forever on PC and Consoles This Year

Update 3: 3D Realms co-founder George Broussard has officially chimed in on the matter, explaining the Dallas Business Journal's erroneous report of a Duke Nukem Forever release date and console versions as a misunderstanding of "off the record" information.

"While we have internal targets, dates and goals, like every developer, we are not ready to share them," Broussard posted on the official 3D Realms forums. "The release date is still 'when it's done', and will be until the appropriate moment. Platforms have not been finalized or announced. "

"You can rest assured that we are moving toward a goal and that the recently released teaser trailer is the start of that process and seeing more of the game, sooner than later," he concluded. "We apologize to gamers and websites everywhere for this series of events. Sometimes, you can be too trusting of people and assume things that come back to bite you."

Update 2: The Dallas Business Journal has made several corrections to its initial report, clarifying that Duke Nukem Forever is internally projected by developer 3D Realms to release this year, with a strong possibility that Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will hit alongside the PC version.

"We can't make an official [release] announcement," reads a newly-added quote from 3D Realms president Scott Miller.

Information regarding the upcoming Xbox Live Arcade release of Duke Nukem 3D remains unchanged, suggesting that the details--which specify co-op, online multiplayer, and a 2008 release--are accurate.

Update 1: 3D Realms has informed Shacknews that a release date and platforms for Duke Nukem Forever were not confirmed in its interview with the Dallas Business Journal. A more detailed response is expected later today.

In the meantime, Shacknews recommends watching the teaser trailer at least one more time, checking over the few available scraps of information, and maybe brushing up on the history of Duke Nukem Forever.

Though 3D Realms has yet to announce a release date or platforms for Duke Nukem Forever, its denial of today's reports only indicate the company is not prepared to discuss those specifics at this time, not that the project has suffered a delay or setback.

Original Story: 3D Realms' long, long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever will be released this year on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, according to a "confirmed" report from the Dallas Business Journal.

While the article's text is quite clear about the details, the included quotes from 3D Realms president Scott Miller are far less concrete. "We haven't formally announced any platforms for DNF," he wrote. "But, of course hitting the big three makes the most sense (PC, PS3, 360)."

An Xbox 360 version of Duke Nukem Forever has long been rumored in addition to the expected PC edition. When questioned about an Xbox 360 rendition last year, 3D Realms co-owner George Broussard responded, "I don't think we've stated that yet for the record but your observations are probably correct."

Miller's comments to the Dallas Business Journal regarding a firm release date were likewise inconclusive. "We may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we're on target this time," he wrote, with the article failing to detail the specifics of the release window.

"The release is still 'when it's done,' but you can expect more frequent media releases and we're not changing engines again and we have considerable work behind us," Broussard said last year.

However, Miller was adamant about the once-uncertain Xbox Live Arcade release of Duke Nukem 3D, noting that the company is attempting to release it on the Xbox 360's digital distribution platform this year.

Shacknews has contacted 3D Realms for more information and clarification on the above details.

PC only for me. Just can't get used to gamepads for these types of games. I feel Im only hurting my gaming experience. I tried Drakes Fortune and the whole time while I thought it was pretty good was wishing I could load it up on my pc.

Yeah, me too. Maybe they will have mouse support like UT3 did for PS3. (PC is all I have though)

I have to agree, especially since i don't own a console. Just one question though, is there going to be a shareware release for DNF?
