Rock Band Confirmed for Wii; Other Versions to Hit Europe by June

Electonic Arts has confirmed a Wii version of Harmonix's multi-intrument music game Rock Band, which graced PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 last year.

EA CEO John Riccitiello made a passing mention of the Wii edition during a conference call today. He also revealed that Europe will receive the PS2, PS3, and X360 versions of the game in the first quarter of the comany's coming fiscal year--a period that spans April 1 to June 30, 2008.

"What's probably the most interesting pieces right now is the coming launch on the Wii, the continued sale of the core platforms in North America and then the fiscal 09 launch across Europe," Riccitiello said of the Rock Band franchise, which EA distributes.

While never officially announced, a Wii version of Rock Band has been expected since the title was first announced. At the time, Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos noted that the studio planned to eventually "bring Rock Band to every [relevant] platform" while praising the Wii Remote for its "enormous potential."

No further details, such as pricing or release information, is currently available. It is unknown if Harmonix will be handling the game itself or if the Wii version will be outsourced a la the PlayStation 2 edition, which was ported by Pi Studios.
