WTF is this shit in my sink?

I came home for lunch today and noticed there was some weird brown crap in my sink. Looks like the water level rose then went back down, but left this crap there...

When I got back to work I called the apartment people and they sent someone from maintenance out, they just left a note saying it was from the dishwasher, and I need to (somehow) rinse the lines w/ bleach... O.o
