Morning Discussion

Good morning Shackers, hope the day finds you well. Do you know how hard Nick works in the video mine every week? Let's just say he does it so you don't have to face the awful truth. Show your appreciation by checking out his latest Replay Couch . Also, Aaron brings word on some of the changes to GTA IV.

Even if you don't like the word "Blog", the results are rather nice:

just read the link- Criminal actions will only increase player's wanted meter if they are witnessed by police.

what about pedestrians who witness a crime? they don't even 'call' the cops? if you do something bad and anyone sees it, your wanted meter should go up just a bit. police should be on the lookout for someone who looks like you or the car you were last seen in, but not actively hunting you down. sorta like 1 star in the wanted meter of the old GTA3D games. they probably could improve on that though.

dunno what to make of this change.

That'd be just a little bit too much I think. Like when people used to say running a red light in GTA3 should increase your wanted status.

I love that they want realism in a game where when being chased by cops you can just get your car fixed and painted and it throws them off.

that works in real life too though, didn't you see Johnny Dangerously?

They kept rereporting it though, so it didn't throw them completely of the trail.

Wait! WTF am I saying?! I'm actually discussing the feasibility of GTA using Johnny Dangerously as a counterpoint.

what's too much? that the police have the description of someone who commited a violent crime?

it was ridiculous in GTA you'd get a star on the wanted meter even when no one was around to see you commit a crime. but now it's only when cops see you do something bad which makes just as little sense. total opposite, they can't find a middle ground?

How often in this game is no-one at all going to be around? Just having to check for cops does provide an acceptable middle-ground to my mind. Having to laboriously make sure no-one is watching doesn't sound like much fun to me. Reading how the wanted system works in this game as you try to escape the circle of influence, if everyone could report you, you'd never escape.

i'm not suggesting anything as severe as that. only that cops have a better chance of entering the area of the crime and spotting you (and not immediately, maybe 5-10 mins later if you are still loitering) if someone besides a cop wintesses you do something. and the game will probably play out like that anyway, if it's still got random pop in and other crappy mechanics.

Exactly. No one would give a shit unless the criminal is coming after that person specifically.

I bet they're going to do it like in Mafia; there's going to be cops walking around on the street, so a chance of being seen anywhere that's heavily populated is still pretty high.

It's going to take some getting used to playing a GTA game on something other than PC.

I just don't think I will be able to wait for the PC version like I did with SA.

Excellent. I'm hoping Spore, LittleBigPlanet and White Knight Chronicles all get release dates soon... if these all hit in 2008, it's going to be a swell year indeed.
