Using Games to Talk to Kids Works, As Evidenced By Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

by Chris Faylor, Jan 18, 2008 2:27pm PST

Fellow Shacknews contributor Aaron Linde has just penned an intriguing look at the effects of parents gaming with their children, which includes a mention of using video games to stir up a conversation with kids.

A similar scenario was featured on a recent episode of NBC Universal's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, depicting Detective Eliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni, pictured left) using his son's video game habit to begin a heartwarming conversation with him.

Following Stabler's initial advances towards a dialog, his young son, who was using a portable device to play games at the kitchen table, set the gaming device down and engaged in an actual conversation with his father. It was insinuated that the duo would later play Scrabble together, though it was unclear if the two were referring to a video game edition or the actual board game itself.
