Yearly 2007 NPD Console Sales Data Graphed
by Chris Remo, Jan 18, 2008 2:17pm PSTThe NPD sales figures for December 2007 and the year of 2007 were released this week, and as promised last month, here are the latest pictorial representations, thanks to Shack regular Stephen "chazums" Pendergrass Charman. There is a bit more graphing going on this month, in celebration of the year's end.
Check out the following bits of visual analysis:
- Monthly sales from January 2007 to December 2007
- Monthly Sales from July 2006 to December 2007
- Sales of three current-gen systems in 2007
- Sales of three current-gen systems to date
- Sales of last- and current-gen systems to date
- Nintendo DS sales in July-December 2006 and January-December 2007
- PlayStation 2 sales in July-December 2006 and January-December 2007
- Xbox 360 sales in July-December 2006 and January-December 2007
"Food for thought," Charman points out. "In December the DS sold almost as much as the PS3 has in the whole year."
The DS really is a ridiculous powerhouse--I continue to maintain that though it doesn't get as much press, it is a considerably more impressive platform in terms of robustness and versatility than the Wii. Look at the Jul. 06-Dec. 07 graph--not only did the DS take December for another year in a row, it dominated it by a considerably higher margin this year than last, an impressive achievement for a system that just went through its fourth holiday season.
And, as usual, check out our humbling perspective chart, which shows how far all the current systems are from approaching the behemoth that is the PS2. Don't forget, these are all North American numbers.

One typo you might want to fix: December is abbreviated as Dev, at least on the first couple charts.
