As was promised, independent developer S2 Games has officially launched its multiplayer-focused FPS-RTS hybrid Savage 2: A Tortured Soul (PC).

Both the full $29.99 game and a demo version are available for download from the game's official site, which currently lists the Beast faction as winning 59% of all battles against human clans.

"By circumventing traditional publishing methods and avoiding the profit sucking retail stores we're able to pass these savings directly to you," said S2 of the game's price point. "Spread the word, help the development community by supporting companies that want to make unique and innovative games."

Anyone else see this as being very similar to Natural Selection in gameplay? If so I think that as a good thing. NS is one of my favorite gameplay types with a FPS/RTS mix.

Took quite a while to login, but no dramas there, was up and playing pretty quick. First thing that hit me was just how little I knew what I was doing, how little I knew about the spells and such, I think they need to make more of an effort to introduce things through a voice over, hell I still don't think I know what most buildings do and only the abilities for a few of the classes.

I almost quit early on because I just didn't know wtf I was doing, many new players are going to feel the same I think, they just dump you straight in. Overall played a few rounds and it seems pretty good, no bugs on my end.

I liked Savage1 but I felt the game play was too simple (aside from the commander aspect) to warrant me playing it over and over...

The gameplay kinda looks roughly the same from the video :/

So it's kind of like Steam, except it actually saves you money and doesn't reside in your system tray to hog resources and spam you with full screen graphical advertisements when they run sales?

I have no interest in this game, but hats off to them for the price point.

I'll definitely be playing this. The original Savage was one of the most addictive online FPS hybrids I've played.. it was nice to have a game that you could master, then re-master again as a commander instead of being the ground force. Good commanders could even jump into FPS mode, defend, then go back to command.

The developers also rock, so it'll be great to support them. I hope they have deepened the combat since the first game, while it was good, it could have had more abilities / weapons per unit I felt.
