Super Smash Bros. Brawl Earns Perfect Score from Japanese Magazine
by Nick Breckon, Jan 16, 2008 7:38pm PSTWhile fans may be miffed at the recent delay, they now have little reason to cancel their orders: Nintendo's anticipated party fighter Super Smash Bros. Brawl has earned a perfect 40/40 score from the popular--though often controversial--Japanese magazine Famitsu.
The news also comes with plenty of new images from the Smash Bros. website, courtesy of the game's director Masahiro Sakurai--who, coincidentally, writes a weekly column for Famitsu.
Check out Captain Olimar's special moves, the new challenge mode, Solid Snake's final smash, and the Pikmin-themed stage.
Also of note is the appearance of Sheik--not a new character, but rather a transformation of Zelda. Interestingly, Sakurai notes that the model of Sheik is based on an early design drawn up during pre-production on The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, a game in which Sheik does not appear.

I'm sure it will be fun in the way that almost all Nintendo games are, but it seems to be taking a very reductionist approach to the last game, which in my not so humble opinion was a leap forward from the first in terms of gameplay and mechanics. It's hard for me to put into words why I'm reticent about what looks like a slightly new direction, and I may be overreacting, but I have serious doubts about this game reaching the dizzyingly awesome heights of the last game.
