Morning Discussion
by Jeff "geedeck" Gondek, Jan 16, 2008 5:39am PSTHow is everyone doing today? Awww, come on it can't be that bad, can it? Maybe it'll cheer you hear about a scaled down Uwe Boll? Oh you mean you willingly saw that, I'm sorry. Well did you hear that the former City of Heroes developers might handle Star Trek Online? Still nothing, eh? Well if Nick's crack game journalism doesn't do it, I give up.

Leno. Daily Show. Colbert Report. Not just that they're on, but who is writing for them? I have a hard time thinking it's just the producers and hosts writing all this. Scabs? How long is this strike going to really last? They all keep seem to be saying the support the writers, but coming back on the air distinctly is not very supportive.

As for the unions are bad thing.....sure, some are tainted by the stink of corporate fodder.....but I have to say, that without unions in the ENTERTAINMENT industry - it would be inexcusable at how many possibilities and ways studios and networks could put sand in the Vaseline and pound the asses raw of anyone who worked in the industry.
The Entertainment Industry has enough pitfalls as it is.....Thank god for the Guilds...
Speculatory comment:
Rumblings amongst some of the industry villagers are saying that if the DGA cuts a deal with the Producers Alliance (they've been negotiating for a month now) that its possible WGA will fold and copy the same deal.
On the other hand if the WGA stands firm and continues striking through Feb. - some have said that it that happens, it would go till June when the SAG contract is up and wait for SAG to strike as a joint effort.....
If scenario #2 were to happen, I'd say that the networks would be up SHIT CREEK....
SAG strike wouldn't last but a week - specially if the WGA were to continue.
