The Witcher Demo Released

The uncut subtitles/journal entries can be restored via the patch 1eyedking provides (use the 'optimized' .reg patch, it's the best).
The actual voice overs can be changed to polish by overwriting your voices_3_00.bif with the voices_5_00.bif from the polish version -- incidentally, the polish voice over bif file is 30% larger than the english one.

This applies to the full version (which I'm playing), and makes the dialog /much/ more interesting/sensical/funny/inappropriate for children. The same things probably apply to the demo.

This article is too old and no one's gonna look, but I'll put in my two cents anyway:

The demo is pretty good. (especially after the lights turned on again) but there are issues:

They took too long to explain the combat. You have to fight 4 or 5 guys before they tell you how to fight. And since it's a timing thing or epic fail, it's all epic fail when you start clicking and nothing seems to be working.

After they explained it, it's pretty interesting, but I'd like more options. (Maybe I only know HALF the combat system.)

The dialog is pretty bad. It's not the worst, but I had a hard time staying interesting. I was glad I could skip through.

Overall controls are pretty tough. It's really easy to stumble over geometry, and while the game might be non-linear, the levels certainly aren't. Nice tight corridors.

I would give it 3 stars (out of 5) right now.

It seems good though. Would have been 4 if they gave me a better control scheme. (true 3rd person, instead of 3rd person point and click) and made the levels a bit more wide open.

can you use your demo save on the finall version? I'm not sure I want to play the first 1/3 of the game twice if I like it.

Can anyone explain why this game is good? I don't get it, the story/fantasy/world makes me yawn, the dialog isn't very interesting, and I don't think I get the combat system because all he does is wave his sword around like a wand and attacks once every minute.

I'm just not getting this and would like some insight into it from everyone who thinks its the second coming.

This is the first 'Age Verification' I've seen on fileshack.

Is it the first one to have it, or just the first I've stumbled onto it?

Has there been any word on a mod to use the original Polish language and a better translation? Apparently the original Polish makes much more sense and is more detailed. The dialogue was not cencored so much as they just cut chunks out of it to save on voice overs.

I got a bug in act 3 in a main quest. Totally borked my game, i'd have to completely start over if I want to finish.

I love this game. It's so epic.

How many total acts are in the game?

Kudos to these guys - I was quite intrigued by this game but I wasn't going to buy it without a demo first.

Also - could we maybe get this story pointed to a WS gallery? As awesome as those redhead tits are, I probably should not have pulled up that image at work

A new patch for the full game is meant to be out soon. (They're saying "before Christmas.")

Apparently some of he changes it introduces won't take effect for existing savegames, so if you haven't started the full game yet (like me) you might want to wait until the patch comes out.

Luckily, if you have already started it, the patch won't break your save or anything; it's just that certain changes won't come into effect for old saves. Nobody seems to know what those changes are so far so it's hard to tell how much of a big deal it will be but at least nobody is forced to restart, I guess.

OH fuck, AWESOME. I've been wanting to play this but can't buy it until after the Holidays. Neat neat neat! :D

PLEASE try this demo...it is greatness.

Where does this demo take place within the actual game? If it's the first hour then no one will want to buy the game from playing as the first hour was boring as all hell..


But then the game gets really good.

THAT is a fucking demo. Unfortunately I still want a patch to fix those load times. Is this demo using the patch tech btw? In other words does it have the fix?
