I'm going to be right smack dab in the middle of UofA all weekend starting tonight and I would love to get something together. I've already SM'd MurrayTheSkull since he's shown interest in some Shackmeet happenings. I don't know exactly who else is in the area, but I know there are a few of you. I'll be staying with a friend (A lurker more than a poster, I've tried to convert him over...) and we'll have Rock Band, GH, PC gaming, maybe even some Pokemon! We could also do whatever else strikes your fancy, if being fancy is your thing. The date is set for tomorrow night but that can change to Sat, Sun, whatever. I don't know the area all that well, so good meeting spot suggestions are more than welcome. Let's make this happen!"
MurrayTheSkull, FlintIronstag, and Prozium have all announced their attendance. Xoque is currently a maybe. Murray has graciously obliged to provide a space for us to rock out (cock out is voluntary but recommended). If something somehow doesn't work out with that, I have a back up apartment available from a friend of the friend I am staying with. I'd also like to get some food and drinks before the festivities, so good (but cheap) ideas are very welcome.

well, the fall update bricked my 360, just like the last spring update. ii ge the general hardware failure ring of lights whenever the hd dvd drive is hooked up. in fact, right after the update, it crashed in the middle of sopranos season 6 part 2 disc 2. i got a loud beep from the tv speakers and everything froze. every attempt made afterwards either results in red rings or it'll play the movie a little bit and freeze or freeze at disc load.
sigh, i really wish MS get their fucking act together. i tried clearing a failed update by pressing the sync button and the power button. nothing.... is this isolated or are other people having the same issues?

These guys are off the rails. They're off the fucking track. They're not even driving a train!
I love Jeff Green, and his gang can have some pretty stimulating conversations, but for the last month, every podcast has been at least 50-60% anecdotes, jokes, and general shittalking. I love that stuff, but when it's 45 minutes in and Shawn Elliot is still talking about some kid he knew that ate a turd in jr. high, I mean c'mon.

Somehow i don't understand this game. I had the same issues with Far Cry so i guess i just do something fundamentally wrong because everyone around here seems to think those two games mark the second coming of jesus.
I understand that ramboing doesn't work in this game, so i try to play passively and defensively. I'll climb a mountain, binocular the hell out of my target to collect all the opponents onto my minimap. Once the thread level is assessed I than proceed to stealth as close as i can by painfully stealthing for 15 meters, reloading my battery and stealthing another 15 meters until i'm close enough to use my silenced weapon.
In that second everyone knows I'm there and proceeds to hand me my ass with an all Korean zerg rush. At that moment I'll run into the nearest shipping container, hug the wall and kill everyone one by one when they come around the corner.
I sometimes reload because i feel cheated out of some part of the gameplay but fact of the matter is that i pretty much have to kill everyone anyways so i may as well do it this way.
What am I doing wrong? I feel like i'm not getting everything out of this game. Its essentially a brutally good looking but excruciatingly badly paced game of doom to me.
Am i supposed to melee people? am i supposed to use my handgun ( how the fuck can i get rid of the second one, i can't use iron sights anymore since he decided to pick up a second ) or am i supposed to avoid all conflict?

Since when did playing spy mean you're playing "ez-mode?" I must have missed that memo.

Still digesting that wild ride this season was.
I'll avoid direct spoilers so I don't accidentally ruin anything for anyone.
Next season thoughts: well, that leaves things pretty wide open then... I hope they come up with something good. As interesting as Dexter being the Dark Avenger is, I suspect they'll want something to base the season around.
Seriously the best show in a long time.

Normally I don't post something like this, but the company I work for, http://www.nextcat.com just opened a new Gaming section. Its another social networking site (I know, a dime a dozen) thats designed for the working professional in the entertainment industries. We have sections for Film, Music, TV, etc and now Gaming. I thought there was enough Gaming people here that actually work in the industry that may find it useful.
For those interested, you can request a connection to me here: http://www.nextcat.com/Joe
Feel free to message me here or there with any questions or comments you might have. Feedback is highly sought after, especially from those in the industry!

My good friend Nodebug & I intend to play a fair quantity of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (PC) over this weekend. The trouble is we invariably never get past the second level usually because I tend to be a little bit of a liability... this is sadly concurrent with the majority of games we play.
Anyway, the question I pose is this; in the Shack's opinion, which level in the game is is the most fun? Yes I know we could try them all out for ourselves, never the less this would not pose an opportunity for the many knowledgeable voices, with their plethora of outstanding lines of reason, to be expressed...
GO!

Well I was sitting there with this huge group of girls that came with the girl that whistletits (eventually)took home. They were all asian and relatively hot(a little too chubby for my taste). So I was just sitting there trying not to make eye contact with any of the girls because I didn't want to put forth the effort to actually socialize and none of them were really interesting to me.
and then it happened. Depeche Mode started playing. My eyes got big... I walked over to the juke box and quickly paged through all the albums they had on tap.
They added a Depeche Mode album to the juke box............................. what the fuck? seriously. I really can't think of something more cool than my favorite bar of all time adding depeche mode to the juke box. I smiled and then smiled again, and then had about 242 more beers. The end.

Jesus that game was fucking awesome. It is easily my GOTY.
Seeing the credits roll and Shigsy's name at the top made me realise how much it is going to suck when he finally dies. The man is a genuis.

hay guys theres this thing in my hand roughly an inch from where my pink and what ever the finger next to it is called, It's inbetween them about an inch down my hand, on the palm side.
It's been there ever since I can remember, and feels like a little ball or something, and it hurts when I push on it, and sometimes it just hurts all the time. Not normally how ever, this is actually the first time it's hurt in like over a year.
Anyway, what the fuck is this thing and why is it bothering me?

My wife had gotten a couple of bounce messages when forwarding funnies to her friends, citing SPAM filtering. She just got one off of an individual email, so I actually clicked the link in the 550 error, and they've actually blacklisted the sender IP.
I can't believe this would be a small issue. Has anyone else run into it?

I have a directory full for *.SQL scripts, each file containing a SELECT statement that return 0-n rows with result hits. I am looking for a straightforward way to run all those scripts and write the resulting rows of all *.SQL SELECTs into a single CSV file. All SQL scripts return the same number of columns, so that CSV can work.
This task needs to be executed several times a month by non-admin trained personel.
In Oracle I'd just spool this, but in SQL Server 2000 things seem less straightforward.

It's a freeware retro game with vector graphics...and it's pretty nice from what I played. Basically you're flying this "Flywrench", through essentially an obstacle course lined with walls of death. Some are colored and if you are the right color you will pass right through them. The only problem being that your Flywrench changes colors based on your movement keys, so for instance you may have to go up through a barrier requiring you to be holding down.
It's a trip, and not just because of the control scheme, it has some crazy music and camera movements that compliment the vector graphics in a trippy sort of way that drives your frustration. Make no mistake, this game is difficult, and frustrating as hell sometimes...but for me it was strangely satisfying and went down in my keeper list. It's hard to explain without feeling the control scheme, so just try it, it's a small download and it's free.
